For summer dragging I found all I needed was 3 colors. Orange, black and blue. I used 1/16th ounce heads 99% of the time when dragging.

Dragging downstream with the current will push that 1/16th oz jig down at least 10 to 12 feet with a long cast behind the boat. Going upstream is a different story. To keep it simple..drag jigs with live bait downstream with a 1/16th oz jig, stay in less than 12 ft of water and get ready smash

Why such a low weight jig

You want as natural of presentation as you can with the bait coming down stream at almost the same as the current speed. Also, you want to feel a slight “wobble” as the jig ticks the bottom; you don’t want the jig PLOWING the bottom.

I agree with Woody with one exception. Dragging moderately clear bottom rivers the 1/16th works great. If you find that your in sections that have a lot of timber on the bottom, I like to go with an 1/8 and have less line out. This makes it more manageable when you see the next clump of crap on the bottom and you want to lift your line over it

1/8 and 1/16oz for sure! Same colors as James. When the time is right over the past 15yrs. I have caught more fish dragging than any other presentation.! Make that 20yrs. waytogo …rrr

Well I tried this technique on Saturday and holly buckets my son got his first walleye 19 1/2 inches I’m happy for him and I’m a happy dad. Twenty minutes later I got a 23 incher I’m happy with that. The weather was warm so we didnt fish very long 2 hours but well worth the trip.
