I have also noticed this same thing with my Paddle Tails Plastics, and like you they were not exposed to the sun for any length of time. It seems to be the chartreuse color that fades the worst. I threw some out this year, but like you said they are not cheap and this should not be happening!

Did you contact CJS? What was their response? My older bags (possibly 1-1/2 to 2 years) has some fading – but the exposure, bag opened, sitting in the rain……I’m sure has all contributed to that. I have about 40 to 50 pounds of BFT plastics and most of it is in great shape. However, plastics in my boat usually don’t get a chance to age very much unless I misplaced a 100 pack somewhere

Anyways yes I sent an email to CJS but I also thought it would be a good idea to post here to hear others thoughts and opinions. Some of these plastics aren’t even opened yet. This seems to be just the newer batches because I never noticed it in the ring worms. They changed something and it should be fixed and taken care of.March 27, 2016 at 11:45 am #1609593Deleted…
Tom’s post was as follows:
Some baits will react to humidity while stored, even in the dark. Factory packages are sealed so outside humidity cannot enter but as soon as that seal is breached humidity will enter even a well re-sealed package. Try getting as much air out of the factory pack when you re-seal it and then slip that package into a quart sized freezer zip-lock and get the air out of the second bag too.
In those scented baits the compounds used in making them are not the same as what is used in making of plastic baits. The dyes and pigmenting are different. In plastics if you see fading or opaquing the problem is generally that the plastic was not gotten to the temperature required to get complete conversion and the under cooked plastic works with humidity to sour colors. Properly converted plastic seldom fades unless exposed to prolonged exposure to bright sunlight.Tom Sawvell

Dyes make really transparent baits while pigments will make relatively transparent baits along with the more solid colored baits. Dyes can be hard to work with and control as they are prone to bleeding and/or color shifting. That what you see is a manufacturing issue.

InactiveRed Wing, MNPosts: 317March 27, 2016 at 7:08 pm #1609639We have seen an issue from a retail side as well. I can say Bob stood behind all of the bad bags we had and made it right. I have not seen an issue with this year’s shipments.
March 27, 2016 at 10:58 pm #1609697I have the same issue with a couple bags of the sassafras colored paddle tails.
My other colors from last year have not faded. Interesting…
March 28, 2016 at 9:17 am #1609749I understand the frustration of faded and even dirty plastics. Nice new crisp colored ones out of the package look great. But they are not always what the fish wants. Over the years Ive soaked some of mine in water to fade them or turn them milky color. Other times throw a odd color in a package with others colors to bleed them together. Markers on some of the plastics can make for some awesome colors to. Just because its not perfect out the the package dont throw them out guys. Might just be a lead in to finding another great color combo.
March 28, 2016 at 10:58 am #1609826Last year I was fairly new to really fishing plastics and I did a lot of searching through the archives here on IDO. I remember coming across a previous thread on plastics (I don’t recall how old it was) and James had a post mentioning that he might buy something like 10 bags of the same color, then go through all of those bags and pull out the 20 or so plastics that are the perfect color to fish with.
March 28, 2016 at 11:36 am #1609847If I remember correctly there were certain shades/colors of oyster shell that were producing better than others. I have noticed BFISHN is very inconsistent on their color quality. I ran across a batch of purple/chart moxi’s that were bright purple and the chart almost glowed in the dark. Just ordered some more from the website and they came back a dull purple and a very FADED chart, almost clear. They look terrible… I was very disappointed.

Posts: 44March 28, 2016 at 4:56 pm #1609935I have seen some fading in the chartreuse colors and also the gold cracker, honey oil and sassafras colors tend to get a little more milky/dull overtime.
I have used them anyways and sometimes they are the color the fish like!
March 28, 2016 at 5:24 pm #1609938Fish like all sorts of different shades of colors on any given day. Just because they are not pretty looking to us, doesn’t mean they don’t look delicious to a hungry walleye! I fish mostly stained waters, so I’m not convinced color shades matter as much for my fishing needs. I’m more interested in proper weight, noise level, and contrast to the water. But yes, it would suck to have a certain color you know works well, to fade to another color. I’ll have to go through my hundreds of bags of plastics to see if any of mine faded.

March 29, 2016 at 8:22 pm #1610243Buckeye86, if I recall they usually close down about this time of year for inventory. I don’t have a clue if that’s the case I recall talking to Bob a number of years ago about Easter and the emails were backed up as well as the answering machine and fax.
On another note, the Redneck Cracker color never seems to fade and the color is always the same. Only color I buy now a days.

April 1, 2016 at 9:26 pm #1610979I am in the camp that says the faded colors are just different, not bad. I like the bright purple and the faded purple both! Go fish them and see what happens.
