It’s hard to stand behind a religion or brach of religion that’s higher ups are a big group of child molesters, or hide the fact that they have so many child molestation issues, and do nothing. That’s the work of the devil

Likewise Catholic. We shall see. Hoping it’s not an American pope, although I didn’t think much of Pope Benedict either. Last good pope was John Paul II.

Humans are prone to sin, that is true. I wouldn’t say it’s a matter regarding faith. Any place where people have power over children will attract sinful people, look at the Boy Scouts, or teachers. Is the problem something that should be brushed under the rug, nope.

Agreed. Very powerful movie. The “It’s Time!” scene is something else. I believe it was 3 churches here in MN listed at the end if memory serves me right.

You’ll get that. Some one has to be a voice of reason. I’ll shout for the kids since the church doesn’t

I said it shouldn’t be swept under the rug. I will bet you that the problem within the Catholic Church is more magnified then the scouts or other groups, due to the narrative from secular media. They love to push anti Catholic, anti Christian narratives, however you don’t hear much about issues within the Mormon church. The IRS was classifying Catholics as domestic terrorists. Where do child molesters go? Hell for their sins.

It was more magnified because the church systematically protected the predators and moved them around to keep offending. And this went all the way up to the top, Pope Francis.

Exactly. The church itself moved the offenders around, hid them within and then said they would deal with it on their own. Very Very messy, bad stuff. None of which I can stand behind. And at the numbers they had, it’s not a small scale or couple of bad apples. It was tons of freaks who were worshiped upon.

Not justifying it at all, but as Steven says, the media and those who hate Catholics, report extensive on it. I would venture to guess ALL religions have their sinners… again .4% shouldn’t chastise all priests. I had good ones growing up, I do know a neighboring Church had a alleged pedo for awhile. All religions “protect” them and move them around.. they are all guilty. Look at some religions and they do things to women and I am sure children (young women) that is the acceptable practice, which should disgust everyone. Like I said, I hope we get a Pope that first and foremost, represents the faith and that includes, addressing pedophiles.

Lots of bad people in this world that need to be put down. Where does the .004% number come from, I’m generally curious.

    1,700 evil priests of the roughly 407,000 total = .4% (not .004%)

Or don’t know how % works? And from a quick google it’s “7,002 clerics “not implausibly” and “credibly” accused of sexually abusing minors in the period 1950 through June 30, 2018, with three gaps in the USCCB data. Out of the 118,184 priests who have worked in those years, the 7,002 priests accused of abusing children are 5.9% of the total.”

Feel free to link any other religions that systematically did something similar. I also was raised Catholic and was an alterboy for many years and served many different churches (home church, cabin church and another home area church), some of those priests ended up being charged, but thankfully/luckily nothing ever happened to me.

I’m not trying to defend Francis for continuing to protect pedophile priests but John Paul was the guy in charge when the abuse 1st went public. Probably been going on for centuries, the church just managed to keep it quiet. I was raised catholic but left when they tried to protect these SOBs.

I don’t think the media is hiding pedophilia of any religion. And I was trying to just point out 1. math and 2. it’s ok to criticize organizations you are affiliated with when they are wrong.

The St. Cloud Diocese declared bankruptcy in June 2020 to be able to avoid having to pay the many case claims against them for sexual abuse. Its sad that an organization with as much money as the Catholic Church was able to do this to avoid paying out damages.

How about most of you guys (not all of you) talk about a subject you have a faint idea about!!! I will be the first to say that Pope Francis was not a good Pope, he promoted many anti-catholic ideals and caused a great deal of harm in the Church. So far as protecting pedophiles that is hogwash ,maybe in a few dioceses this is the case, but i know for a fact that even when there is a suspicion of a priest sexually abusing a minor they are immediatly removed from service until the claims are proven false. Anytime a priest has charges brought against them the media jumps on it and paints all catholics as evil pedophiles. Most of you guys need to do some research and find out what the Catholic Church actually teaches and what it is about, until then stick to watching loony tunes or whoever you are trying to imitate.
