Best use for old gas

I have about 2 gallons of non oxy that’s been sitting in my garage for let’s say 3-4 months. Other than using it to start bonfires is there anything productive I can use it for? I guess this is a question for the mechanics out there. Is gas like this harmful to a car engine or small engine like a lawnmower? I usually try to take care of my things so haven’t used it in anything due to its age and I figured making use of $10 worth of gas wasn’t worth the potential engine issues of using old gas.

Side note when I look in the gas tank I see a few little floaties – tiny specs of what I assume is dirt. I’m talking like 5 total about the size of sand. Is that a concern to put that into a gas tank or is something that minuscule not an issue?

I always tossed old gas in my beater car.

Shoot, an old farmer buddy of mine used to pour old pesticides into his 7.3 through a coffee filter…can’t be that bad, right?? jester

Pour that gas from one can to another thru a coffee filter or a gas screen and use it in a mower or snow blower. Non-Oxy doesn’t degrade like the gas with ethanol in it.

I like to start my stuff in the spring with fresh gas, I have found that it is hard to get rid of old gas, so I am looking forward to your responses. BTW even old non-oxy is not good.

3-4 months isn’t that old for non oxy. Pour it in your gas tank and run it. You could filter it with a funnel and rag easily if wanted

3-4 months is a concern? My mower still runs on a can filled last summer sometime. I wouldn’t put it in my car or boat but mower runs fine for me.

3-4 months is fine on non oxy. If you don’t want to run it in a small engine just dump it in your truck it will be fine. If you decide you do not want to run it, try to find a shop that uses waste oil for heat and they can use it in that mixed with the oil, not everywhere will take it as you can only have so much fuel mixed in with the oil and be safe. As far as the floaties like mentioned could strain it or if going in the truck don’t worry about it.

I have some I just put in a weedwacker that was probably 3 years old. Smells and ran fine.

3-4 months is just getting broken in.

Yep 3/4 months is no problem for non-oxy. Could easily let it sit a year and would still be fine IMO.

I’d use a funnel with a screen and dump it in a vehicle that’s 3/4 full.

No worries at all, use it as normal if it was stored properly. Pour it out slow into whatever and use the last quart with the crap for a “cautious” fire.

I used to run 11 month or older gas I drained from my snowmobile in my truck all the time . No issues .

That gas is junk and needs to be disposed of properly. I just so happen to know how to do that. What’s your address?

And come spring time when you pump all that terrible bad gas out of your boat that has been sitting for 5-6 months I will dispose of that too.

I’d sell it. OPEC is dialing back by 1 million barrels per day and fuel prices will likely go higher than they were this summer.

This might be better posted in the unpopular opinion thread… But old gas is a great weed/grass killer around the driveway, sidewalks and fence lines.

4 month old gas isn’t old and even standard ethanol blend will be fine to use in anything.

Make that 2 million barrels per day.

When I’m in doubt with gas I mix it with a greater volume of fresh and send it. never had an issue until its 2 or 3 years old

That doesn’t seem very old. I run extra gas I have through my truck whenever I go to fill my various nonoxy cans. I even run leftover mixed gas in my truck when I swap my boat tank from outboards to being a generator extended run system.

I do the same. And have all my life

I have a good friend that is on IDO that always poured old gas in his work truck. He ended up buying the work truck and continued pouring the old gas in his truck. He almost made it up to Cty Rd H (1/2 mile) from our cabins and his truck crapped out on him right after he poured in the old gas. Not sure what it cost him to clean his fuel system but it was several hundred dollars and he had issues on/off for a few weeks. Not sure if he is still doing that or not. But agree that a few month old gas most likely wouldn’t be an issue.

I doubt it is bad. Years ago I parked my 96 K1500 with a half tank of 10% ethanol. It wouldn’t start a few years later as the ethanol turned the short piece of fuel line above the pump to slime, I replaced that line and it fired right up. The trans died before the engine did

2-3 months? Jeez I have been using the same gas in my 5 gallon can for snowblowing/mowing for 9 months now and haven’t thought twice about it. Usually only fill it 1x a year
