Best Truck Tire – HELP

It’s about time to replace my truck tires. I was going to run them for another season but several of them are leaking and the cost to get them taken off the rim and Re-mounted to see if that stops the leaks is about the cost of 1 new Tire so I might as well bite the bullet and get new ones and feel much safer on the roads this winter. I’m looking for a all season tire with rather aggressive tire. A little road noise is OK with me ( after all it is a truck ) I do a fair amount of Towing a boat and get off road a fair amount when hunting and ice fishing. I have Cooper AT3’s on the truck now and overall was not real happy with them. In the past I’ve had good luck with the Bridgestone Duelers, But the last time I researched tires they did not get good ratings. I’m curious what all you here are using and how happy you are with them. Maybe a little pro’s and Con’s on your current tire choice would be helpful as well. I trust the word of the IDO world far more than some stranger reviews. Thanks in advance for your replies

Hankook Dynapro ATM. Been using them for years on my last two trucks. Many people around here on the forums use and love them. You will not be disappointed.

I have cooper AT3’s and have been happy with them after 12,000 miles. They are a little noisy. What don’t you like about them?

X2, ran them on my last 2 trucks also and I could not be more pleased. They wear like iron and are inexpensive. Great tread and off road traction. I honestly can’t give you any cons on them.

The wear was not the best, They were a little more noisy than I expected given the tred pattern on them. They also did not seem to grip well on wet or icy roads. They were a OK tire, Just not good enough that I want to go with them again

That is a option as well. If they had a bit more wear on them for this winter that’s what I’d do for sure. If I could get them thru winter then I could run them most of next summer and get new ones late summer /early fall

X2 – 100% my experience with AT3’s other than the noise. Have them on a 2001 Silverado, about 35,000 miles and they won’t see 40,000. Uneven wear even with regular rotation and balancing plus poor road performance. I bought them when I was doing a lot of gravel and off road driving, and they were ok to above average for that. But the ice/snow pavement performance has been below average at best and overall wear has been terrible. I bought them simply because the price was right at $400 OTD, but I won’t do that again.

I’m also in this boat. I don’t see these Coopers lasting past 40k miles. Wearing down quickly. Running them on a 07 Chev 3500. So don’t mind the noise. tongue Also bought on price at the time….. doah frown

Go with the Hankook DynaPRO. Our local Police use them on their Ram truck and Durango and swear by them. When my 2016 Ram truck needs new tires, (bought new in August 2017) I will replace them with Hankook tires.

I’ve been running the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A 111’s on my truck for 3 years now. Really impressed with the tires!! Benefits of this tire, for me, is the quietness of the tire as I travel 90% of the ware on highway. Secondly, with a truck I’m always more concerned about traction on wet roads especially in MN. These treds are specialized for added traction on wet roads and have never had any drifting or “slipping” which is common among trucks. Price is very reasonable and a great all-season tire!

Have a set of Yokohama Geolandar G015 tires on RAM 1500 and have been pretty happy with them. Have put about 25,000 miles on them so far. Only tires I have to compare to were the Goodyear SR-A (I think) that came with the truck, those were garbage in the winter compared to the Yokohamas even when they were still good and were nearly racing slicks by 50,000 miles.

I put on Hankook Dynapro ATM’s a few weeks ago on my 2013 Ram 1500, strictly based off of the reviews from other tire threads on IDO. I’ve done about 1,000 miles on them so nothing much to review, however I can’t notice a negative noise or ride difference. They have done about 600 miles of interstate travel to and from South Dakota on a pheasant hunting trip, along with getting me through some small snow drifts on deserted gravel roads west river.

I bought mine on Black Friday from Discount Tire, not sure if their deals are still running or not. Otherwise Wal-Mart or sam’s club had them the next cheapest from what I could find a few weeks ago.

LOVE my ATM’s! 1 year and still my favorite tire to date.

I’ve had grabbers, nittos, BF’s, good year, Cepeks, mickey’s, etc.

I’ve had Grabbers. Liked them new, but they wore quickly and sucked once worn. Replaced with Dynapro ATM, and I loved those. Unfortunately, I traded that truck in. My Tahoe now has Goodyear Wrangler HPs on it. They’re a fine onroad tire, but I’ll be putting Dynapro ATMs on it when these wear out.

I just put in an order for Michelin LTX M/S 2’s for my 2014 Ram 1500. I my primary concern was ice/snow capability for the winter/ice fishing, and those tires seemed to get the best reviews, short of a studded/dedicated winter tire. Warranty is for 70k miles, and all the reviews I read pretty much said they should last that long, if not longer.

Life is about compromise. Figure out which aspects are most important to you: durability? highway ride? quiet? traction? looks? You won’t find too many “aggressive” tires that also last more than 60,000 miles. In the 50,000 mile range there are a lot more options, but that’s giving up almost 1 year of tire life to get a better look or more traction.

I put Cooper Zeon LTZ on a previous truck and loved them. So much better than the crappy stock Goodyear Wranglers which couldn’t maintain traction on wet pavement and only lasted 40,000 miles. The Zeon’s have a semi-aggressive look without giving up too much on the highway, great traction in snow and wet roads, and the wear was good for 55,000 miles. Those are more expensive than the Cooper AT3, so maybe that makes a difference. Also, getting the tires rotated regularly of course.

My current truck has Toyo Open Country AT tires, these are really great tires, definitely moving more towards the off-road end of things but relatively quiet and a soft ride on pavement, with outstanding traction in the snow or gravel. My last set of these were good for 50,000 miles without any change in performance.

They get worse as they wear, you would think you have bad wheel bearings.Traction on wet surfaces is almost nil,and they need frequent rotations. They are about as bad as BF Goodrich Rugged Fails(Trails).

I know in the past Firestone got black eyes for recalls, but they now make a decent tire for a good price.Reviews on the Destination series are positive.Thinking of getting a set of the A/Ts for the Grand Cherokee,to replace the Coopers.I have the LE2s on my truck, and just got a set for the Torrent.

All NEW tires work well in the snow. Some just dont do well the second winter on.
