98 alaskan 1600 tiller. Looking for recommendations for the best bow mount trolling motor for the boat. Looking for bow mount with the spot lock option. I know google is easy, just looking for guys who have similar boats and what they rigged them up with, and how happy they are with them, thanks.
I am running a motor guide XI5. I am very happy with it. The only thing I don’t like is that the remote doesn’t tell you what speed the motor is set at. I switched from a terrova that had an awful remote signal, and spot lock was a joke. I have heard that the new version of the terrova spot lock is much better. I don’t know if they improved the signal strength or not.
You really can’t go wrong with either the Terrova or Xi5,but I would recommend at least 54″ shaft/80lb thrust.
The 2017+ Terrova has a much better spot-lock than previous models.Remote features,the Terrova wins.For quiet operation,the Xi5 wins.And it turns faster than Terrova.
For mounting ease,the Terrova wins,the Xi5 has a drop front that can get challenging on some boats.
