Is there traditionally a best time of year to purchase/order a new Skeeter?

I know you mentioned Clayton Marina in NY in a previous post, but they don’t seem to carry much Skeeter inventory.

One of our favorite dealers here has quite the selection of WX2060’s in stock, if you’re willing to travel.

I think you are going to be hard pressed to find deals. Inventory seems to be really low so buying last years model late in the model year probably isn’t an option. Sometimes there are deals at the boat shows but I didn’t find any when I was looking.

Best to try and deal on accessories. When I bought my Ranger they threw in the cover and a significant gift card for the accessories. Try and get the dealer to outfit you with lifejackets, buoys, ropes, etc. That stuff significantly adds up and you can usually negotiate. Also, see if the other mfgs have rebates when you purchase the boat. Minnkota is usually running them along with H-Bird.

There really is’nt a black & white answer on this. Historically, for the folks only concerned about money and not how the boat is equipped and or colors, a carry over boat late fall you will typically see more discounts than normal. Keep in mind , that this year especially, inventories are very tight and limited.

If you are very specific on what and how you want your boat, order away once you are confident in that decision. Your dealer will make sure to have you covered on any pending promotional programs from Skeeter and or Yamaha.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve owned 6 boats so far. The first was used and the next 5 were new. The only one that didn’t have issues after purchase was the used one. The last boat I purchased 1500 miles away and was left with a big hassle dealing with warranty issues. All that said, I’m already assuming there will be some issues after purchase and want to stay as local as I can with the best dealer option I can.

This site more then anywhere else will advise you that your dealer of choice is as important or even more important then price. We see threads every year from guys who buy on price alone and have trouble when they have a issue.

I agree 1000%. The first question I posed was about dealers.

    Todd,

Don’t want to seem like a Boat Center fan boy, but their reputation reaches far beyond the borders of WI and MN. I had a Skeeter dealer about 1 mile from me and I chose to drive 53 miles to purchase from Skeeter Boat Center. Sure we thought the price was fantastic, but it was the confidence that they were going to take care of us after the sale. You are correct that something will eventually go wrong, but it helps when the dealer actually does a water test before delivering the boat.

Having said that, I think being ready of the right boat is the best advice. I have found great deals on boats at all different times of year. Sometimes I was ready, and other times I was not.

Have fun shopping and good luck.

I have gotten the impression from this site that they are a great dealer to work with, and I gladly would, but they are 850-900 miles away. Even if they are the best at taking care of their customers after the sale, the fact still remains, they’re 900 miles away. It’s sad that we even have to have this conversation given the price of new rigs. I’m looking at close to 100k price tag and over the last month I’ve made three calls( left message asking for return call) to two dealers and have not received one return call.

I might not live 900 miles away from SBC however I do live 500 miles away and they still get my business. If it’s important to work with a great dealership there is nobody better than The Boat Center. I’ve had issues in the past however if it wasn’t something they could send me a part to fix we worked out a plan to get them the boat. They are a customer first dealership and there is no replacement for that, no matter how far away they are. Good luck in your future purchase!

Todd just to let you know I am 4 hours away from The Boat Center. My next boat will come from there if at all possible. I have another Skeeter dealer 2 miles from my 2nd residence and drive right by it all year long.
