I’m headed up to the NW angle this summer. Trying to plan the best time for a good bucktail and topwater bite. I was thinking the mid to late July window. Looking for advise from angle veterans. Thanks Jonny

Bite can be hit or miss. Good one week, bad the next. I’m sure you know this.

But mid-late July should be in the right time frame. I was there the end of July/beginning of August and we struggled a bit, but managed a few fish on bucktails and topwater. Was just an off week according to the guys we talked to.

the best known bite is when water temps first hit the low 70s, putting muskies on “summer” structure and actively feeding…which means bucktails and topwater. this is usually 2nd or 3rd week of July, but of course weather is variable with early/late springs and the impact on when water temps warm up.

personally, i’ve moved our trips back into mid-August in order to get a more consistent bite. it means giving up the chance at the “perfect storm” of crazy fish numbers when they’re still concentrated and get really active, but i prefer to avoid the risks of being too early in favor of predictable action and locations.
