Hey everyone I was wondering what are the best spring musky lures. I am just starting to get into musky fishing. Also what are your fluro leader preferences.

I like big minnow type “twitch baits”. They pull down 1-3 feet max, but work them twitching and pulling 2-3 times then pause. That’s when the lure turns sideways, continue working that sequence until about 10 feet from the boat and change direction on your retrieve make sure to bring in boatside with the widest circle you can manage or a wide figure 8. Work this over and around green cabbage and you should see something eventually assuming the lake holds muskies. Topwaters are also a good option particularly at low light. Again, over green cabbage, bigger the bed the better and particularly on edges an pockets. Use wire muskie leaders, they’ll never see them. Fluorocarbon leaders not needed and if it hangs up on a big tooth by chance, it’ll likely break.
Good luck…if you tie into one or just see 4 feet of fish follow your offering in boatside, you’ll be in for a rush. waytogo

This is an example of what I like best. 6-8 inch size, no need to go bigger this time of year. Also, 9 out of 10 times they will strike during the pause. Don’t expect them to hammer it, often times they’ll come in and just nip at it or slurp it in with little or no aggression. So make sure to continually reel in the slack line during 1-3 second pause. If you don’t when the fish comes up to nip it, you’ll just have slack line when you go to stick it.
