Best spot for Salmon in Wisconsin or the UP? Lake Superior vs Lake Michigan

  • #2027056

We’re going to get a salmon charter for a bachelor party around the second week of June, and have the following options available to us:

  • Lake Michigan – Manitowoc
    Lake Michigan – Algoma
    Lake Michigan – Sturgeon Bay
Lake Michigan – Escanaba (Green Bay, Big Bay De Noc)
    Lake Michigan – Manistique
    Lake Superior – Marquette
    Lake Superior – Munising
  • Out of those options, what would be the best chance to get on some fish? Again, it’ll be around June 10ish, give or take 4 days. Would prefer a 6 hour or less trip.

Alternatively, we’d entertain the idea of Walleye guides out of any of those, but they’d have to be able to take 5 people (2 boats will be too much money).

That time of the year you are looking at Algoma and Manitowoc I would think, and maybe even further south yet like Sheboygan. The nice thing about Algoma is if it gets too rough on the big lake, you’re a 45 minute shot to being on the water on the Bay.

I would look up “The Fishing Magician” and “Hakuna Matata Charters” both out of Algoma.

The water was very warm last year, so things were ahead of schedule. Not sure what this year will bring. Either of those guides would be able to point you in the right direction.

Algoma or Kewaunee will be goin well by then! Wet Dreams Charters, Kinns, The Fishin Magician will all be on fish.

Think there would be any benefit then to just going out of Sturgeon Bay? That would actually be easier for us to travel to, but I hear a lot more about Algoma.

    ha i learned something today!
I did not know it was a thing in the upper mid west!

i thought they were only on the upper west coast and up to alaska..

How is the weather under that rock of which you apparantly reside beneath? 😁

If you want to fish Algoma but stay in Sturgeon Bay, it’s only a little over a 15 min drive to Algoma if you are staying on the south side of Sturgeon bay. Sturgeon bay should be going strong by mid June this year also. Usally gets good there late June, but I would think this year would be sooner. We have a place in Sturgeon bay and I fish Algoma a few times a year, just to go somewhere else.

That time of year it is hard to beat Port Washington WI. We have some really good Captains here that I’m sure you would have a good trip with. The nice part about here is, we’re only about 20 minutes from Milwaukee. Which if it’s a bachelor party, you may want to go see some “dancers” at night. If not, we have a pretty good local bar scene as well.

Sheboygan or Port Washington would be better at that time of the year. The bite generally moves north as the season goes on. Manitowoc has always been a bit enigmatic as it has always been a better Lake Trout port than a Salmon port.

If you are also looking tho golf, Sheboygan is hard to beat.
