    Hi group,
I’m heading to Webster in a few weeks, looking for advice on the best route to take from Red Wing. Will be leaving at 6:30 on a Thursday morning, pulling my boat. I’d like to steer clear of the TC mess if possible.
What’s the best way? Hwy 12? 212? Go up 94 and jump off in St. Cloud?
Any major road construction I should avoid? Is there a MNDOT link where I can check?

    Looking for suggestions.
    TIA,
    Don

Use google maps and look at all the choices to avoid the Minneapolis traffic area.

Straight up 61 to 494 west then US Highway 12 all the way to Webster.

As far as getting out of Red Wing to the west easily you’re sort of in the armpit of America highway-wise. If you know your way around you could go to Cannon Falls and Lakeville or Farmington and work your way to 212 and go west on it until you clear the Twin City Suburb stuff then go north to 12. 12 is a better highway for travel. 212 will get you out into S Dak too so its up to you.

Google maps as suggested, but get over to 212 the best way you can and take that to Montevideo then either continue to the road that cuts straight across towards Milbank or take 7 from Montevideo to ortonville.

If you’re coming up through the metro, I would avoid US 12 going west – it’s a good road but there’s lots of small towns to slow you down from 494 through Willmar. MN 7 or US 212 are better choices, I take MN 7 when I go back to Ortonville from St Louis Park. Hope this helps, good luck with what you decide.
