best rifle ?

    I would go with the .270 also. I have two of them, and they are fantastic. Lot of good other suggestions, but I am just partial to the .270, as it will do anything you need it to do, plus be reasonable cost, and I have yet to see one that is not accurate.

    You do realize that for the price of a QUALITY autoloading hunting rifle ($800 ++), you could by a bolt gun chambered in a more capable cartridge, a decent optic, and more than enough ammunition to make someone comfortable out past 300 yards, right?

    Edit: And a can of bear spray.

    .270 or 30-06…. Remington makes some managed recoil rounds and they are the bomb.
