I find myself in the market for some new raingear for cooler weather ( Early spring and Fall ) I’m sure there are a ton of old post on this subject but rather than go find them I thought Id open the topic again just in case there are some new options out there. I really don’t want to spend 600+ $ for a set but also don’t want some cheap crap that will not last. Like I said I need something for cooler temps ( 30-50 ) I have a few different sets that work ok for warm temps in the summer. I just don’t have any large enough to layer much under them. With a fall trip to Canada coming up I don’t want to end up either cold or wet – That would make for some long days.

Buy a set that is 1-2 sizes big just for this purpose. Then you can wear whatever you want underneath. That’s what I do.

I have a set of Guide Wear Xtreme from Cabelas. I am very happy with it and there is enough insulation to keep warm in the temperatures you describe, you will need to layer some.

I was going to look hard at Cabela’s offerings but have heard some real negative things about warranty handling since they were purchased by basspro. I had a issue with them recently on a warranty issue on a pair of their boots. Needless to say I became rather upset !!!

I got some Carhartt Shoreline bibs this spring and am really happy with them. They are surprisingly heavy duty compared to any rain pants I’ve had before. They aren’t insulated but I sure wouldn’t want to wear them when it’s very warm out. Might at least be a cheaper option for the bibs to go along with whatever jacket you like.

not sure if you ice fish but a lot of guys, myself included, wear ice armor in the boat during the colder months. I haven’t tested mine out in the rain yet but i hear they are waterproof. others that have can chime in. Bonus they float and serve as an excellent suit on the ice. I remember one post on this site where a guy described standing up in his boat too fast and he passed out. Woke up on his back in the water. Suit saved his life. Course had he been wearing a life jacket that would have done the trick too but ya know….

Columbia makes good rain gear – I got pants for $50 and they are a bit large so I can layer them. I think jackets are about $75 and I do the same.

REI’s brand rain gear is similar – you can get a full set for less than $200 and then layer it.

BTW, on the Ranger gear website you can get a set of rainproof bibs for $90. You probably wouldn’t want them if you don’t have a Ranger but it goes to show you don’t need to spend $500 for a decent set.

I have another set of PVC rain gear. It’s not the most comfortable thing there is but it will never fail in keeping out the rain and layering underneath provides warmth. Can get a set of decent PVC gear for less than $100
