Where is the best place to purchase bulk ammo? What is the process when buying Ammo online? Can it ship direct to a home? does someone need to be home and show ID to receive it?

I see that most of the cheaper 9MM ammo for sale online has either steel or aluminum casings. Does this cause any problems in most newer guns?

Is there much savings to handload 9MM Ammo? Not talking quality just cost

I gave up reloading long ago. I just don’t shoot enough anymore.

Aluminum cases are banned at most gun ranges. Other then that, I haven’t had problems in my 9. But Glocks should shoot everything. LOL!

Once a person gets past the upfront cost of reloading and if you don’t figure in your labor (because you enjoy it)…lots cheaper. Depending on the equipment purchased, a person would have to sit down and figure out the break even point.

I’ve bought ammo online. I don’t think anyone was home when it was delivered. Just set on the steps. I wouldn’t have a problem doing it again.

If I owned any guns, I would buy all of my ammo online. Websites like AmmoSeek and Gun.Deals can search multiple websites for best deals. You can ship it your home no problem. The delivery guy may not be the happiest having to carry 2,000 rounds of 9mm to your doorstep…but it sure is convenient for you!

Lucky Gunner is another site that has good deals and reasonable shipping on ammo. Again, if I owned guns, I would use almost all steel cased ammo in .223 and 9mm for practice. My guns would have thousands and thousands of rounds through them with minimal failures in USPSA.

Bulk ammo prices are all over the map, but I’ve had the best luck with:

    Abel Ammo
    BulkAmmo.com
    Sales at Basspro/Cabelas
    Midway USA

Yes, you can ship it directly to your home. Most carriers say that they require an adult signature, although I’ve heard highly variable reports as to whether or not they actually collect one at time of delivery.

Steel casings are in theory prone to rust and some have preservatives or coatings applied that can interfere with function. I’m not a fan, although I’m sure they’re fine if you buy and shoot them in a reasonable period of time.

Aluminum casings have none of the issues that steel have, the only downside I’m aware of is that they are not reloadable.

Is there much savings to handload 9MM? Yes, but…

It depends on how much you shoot and what type of ammo you want to produce. If you’re talking about cheap plinking ammo, then it is hard to justify if you do not already reload. It IS generally cheaper to reload, but if you do not already reload and therefore have reloading equipment, it would take a long time and many tens of thousands of rounds loaded to justify the cost of buying the equipment just for handgun practice.

Also, if you’re shooting an auto-loading handgun, collecting brass that gets ejected all over tarnation is a massive PITA.
