Best Phone Navigation App?

I recently tried the Navionics HD boat and marine app but deleted it after trying it out on Minnetonka one day. According the the app I was supposed to be in 18 feet of water between two weed beds and after drilling a hole I only marked 8 feet. I had to move nearly 150 feet to get to the depth I wanted. What is the best phone app for the money that will be accurate?

    Thanks

Did you hit the icon and make sure you were on the SonarChart setting?

I don’t know of any other phone app. Nobody else is going to provide that as it would undermine their sales of plotters and map cards. Navionics is the best you’re going to get and it’s not going to put you exactly on the depth. It’s generally close. Carry a bottle of water to squirt on the ice and read through it with your sonar before drilling holes.

Some places are exact, some are not.

This is true. The way to change this is the blue button that looks like an upside-down WiFi icon.

Check out local lakes on the Navionics and the SonarChart setting. They can be way off. The SonarChart is the more accurate of the two, but it’s still not perfect.

The problem is the phone GPS accuracy itself. It’s pinging off a satellite after all. Next time you’re out and sitting in a shack, mark your spot, turn the phone off and on, and see if you’re sitting on that spot still. You can do it from your couch, too. Oftentimes it’ll show you sitting 10-100 feet away from your waypoint. If you’re drilling on a sharp break, 50 feet could be the difference between 6 and 60 FOW. I think it depends a lot on the day, the weather, and the locations of the satellites.

All the phone apps are basically a reference. I’ve had it be real close and on another lake it wasnt even in the same ball park
