I’m sure there are a ton of old post on this topic but I’m not good at searching for old post. I have finally used up all of the bulk spools of line I had. Its time to spool up a few reels for crappie and sun fish ( 4-6 lb. test ) What are everyones current line of choice these days. I want to stick with Mono. I’ve not had the best of lucks with superlines in the low diameter sizes. way to many wind knots and loops. For the panfish I prefer to stick with Mono. Need to go out in the next day or so to get some new line, so lets hear what is working for you.

4lb will cast significantly better than 6lb. Plus less memory and slip bobbers will work better with 4lb as well. I like Trilene XL.

It won’t be long now. The ice sure got black around our area the past couple days.

Depends on the cover. Thicker cover, 6#.

    Open water, 4#.

Trilene XL green is a good solid line and cast’s well to get out farther. Plus is widely available and reasonably priced.

A tiny swivel and 2# line can be added if fish are finicky or the condition’s warrant going to a lighter line.

Magna thin is a good line too.

If it’s all corks, mono is the only line I’d personally use.

All jigging and no corks ever, hard to beat a small diameter braid or super line with a mono leader. But if kids are involved in jigging, then lean back to mono for the forgiveness of it.

    X2

For shallow water, getting the setup farther away from the boat can help a lot.

6lb stren gold crappie mono for main linethen tip with a 4lb clear fluoro leader. Makes it easier to track down your bobber and see slack in your line during spring bobber fishing.

4lb Trilene XL. If around reeds, bullrush, or similar I’ll bump up to 6.

10-4! on the Berkley Sensation. Even in 4lb it seems to act like 6 to 8 pound strength. Ya, I hear ya it’s in my head but, I’ve been really impressed with the strength of the 4 lb test Sensation. I use a clear and low vis green.
