I have been to a quite a few and none of them have been great. I have however been to some great ones in San Francisco, LA, and New York. Just wish something came close here. Any input would be appreciated.

Campiello in Eden Prairie… that is if you can’t make it to their Naples location
Mama Maria’s in North Hudson. Outstanding.
We also like DeGidio’s on 7th in St. Paul. Old School Italian. The kinda place gangstas would hang out.
La grolla in St. Paul
Bar la grossa in Minneapolis
If u choose bar la grossa, get the lobster and eggs! AMAZING!
Mama’s Pizza on Rice Street in St. Paul has great food, and more than just pizza of course. It’s a great family run restaurant with very nice people. Plus, you get a complimentary small frozen yogurt cone after your meal.

CC Suggested for parking……

I have driven by DeGidio’s dozens of times going to Mancini’s before wild games and wondered if it was good. I will definitely try that one.

Luci Ancora or Ristorante Luci in Highland neighborhood of St. Paul? I went there a lot when I lived in the area.
Italian Eatery in South Minneapolis or Broders in SW Minneapolis. Some of the best food in town and create neighborhood appeal.
Not super spendy but you need reservations for both if it’s a weekend.

DeGidio’s Hot Dago sandwich with a Peroni is hard to beat.
If you want tasty, cute,(think of the wife) and affordable try Fat Lorenzos in south Mpls.
Another Vote for Lagrolla in St Paul and Italian Eatery in S Mpls!
Carmelo’s by Macalaster College is an excellent hole in the wall type place. And my personal favorite is Louis, upstairs of Cossetta’s. Plus you can stop by the market and bring home all the good stuff.

Mamas pizza is a great place to go. The brothers are the nicest guys around and mama was the friendliest lady. We’ve been going there for 20 years
Another vote for Bar Lagrassa. The gnocchi is awesome, as is the crab ravioli!

+1 on Campiello
Also Luna Di Luna in Bloomington
I would second EPG’s suggestion of Chianti Grill and although it’s been a few years, I remember the wait staff and food being extremely good. There isn’t a ton of great Italian in the cities unfortunately. My #2 would probably be Bucca Di Beppo. Although they are family style so make sure you bring a bunch of people. It is really good food.
Mama Maria’s in North Hudson. Outstanding.
X 2 On Mama Maria’s! Really good stuff
Reservations recomended.
Not sure about the Best? Have not been to every one. Is there such a thing as a bad Italian restaurant?
Fancy – Sole Mio in Woodbury and Pazzaluna in DT St Paul.
Old school – Yarussos.
Quick and/or fancy – Cossettas with Louis upstairs.

Giuseppe’s in Rosemount is amazing. It’s been brought up on IDO before, surprised no one mentioned it now. It’s where the old Subway used to be. Kind of a goofy setup since the place is so small, but the food is outstanding and the atmosphere is nice. Excellent bread too.
Most people hit my favorites, how about Red Rabbit? Any fans?
Never heard on that one, Dave. Had to google it! BTW, the name translates well…. Coniglio Rosso.
