Been asked a million times, but usually pertains to gloves, or overall hand coverage. And the replies usually consist of everything under the sun.

I don’t want gloves. I have some nice technical gloves that i wear under my mitts.

I previously lost my ice armor mittens, just the basic ones. That or I tossed them after finally wearing through in 4 years use. What’s everyone who prefers a mitt for keeping hands warm using this season. I thought about upgrading to Ice Armor extreme’s but they are out of stock EVERYWHERE. I don’t know if that’s because of the holiday season, or something else. I heard there is a 5-year warranty now with these?

Anyway, game on. I need new mitts before I hit the ice!

I hate all gloves/mittens, seems they are either too cold, not waterproof, or don’t hold up. So I don’t wear them other than in extreme conditions, or while traveling, and imo it is tough to beat a pair a choppers! They are warm, nearly indestructible, heat/fire resistant and cheap if you lose them.

X2 on Choppers. Easier to take off and just as warm or warmer than nice gloves. I take off my gloves a lot so choppers work best for me.

Joka thermal mits are a good option for warm and dry. I like leather choppers also.

Interesting, I never thought of choppers. I liked my ice armor mitts but i didn’t really fish WITH them. I’d get everything setup, line dropped, and in the bitter cold i’d jig with them on while sight fishing with a TUCR noodle. Id stick a hand warmer inside in extreme conditions.

Suppose I could use choppers for the exact same reasoning huh….

I like choppers too, and like leather buck or goat skin insulated gloves too, all for the reasons already mentioned. Sure they aren’t submersible waterproof, but they do repel light splashes of water. I’ve found that many of the snow gloves and mitts are hard to get on your hand when your hands are moist at all. The fleece lining sticks to your hands and bunches up.

I too love the chops, my main reason is they are warm and big I can shake them off in a hurry for getting my hand on the reel quickly.

Cabelas has battery heated mitts that were $225 and last summer they were in the bargain cave on line for $68. I haven’t used them hunting or fishing yet but they sure seem like they’ll be nice and toasty warm.

I have found that Gore-Tex is amazing for mittens. Bought a pair of cabelas pinnacle gore-Tex mittens and they are the bees knees. I would always sweat in my hand wear and therefore get cold or clammy. With these, water vapor escapes and water doesn’t get in. Best of all worlds.

I spend a lot of time up north fishing lakers and I even take trips into the BWCA in the winter. When up on a weeklong camping/fishing trip in winter I wouldn’t trust my hands to anything other than choppers. When it is forecasted for below 0 degrees Fahrenheit I will add wool fingerless gloves for a second liner. In my experience choppers can’t be beat.

Get a beaver pelt and have mittens made. There is no comparison for retaining heat.

I like the Joka (think HT makes the same or very similar) mits too. They’re waterproof and a little stiffer with less restriction at the wrists which allow you to wear a pair of thinner gloves inside. The mits are quick and easy to remove so you fish with the gloves.

We use have them at work so have used them a lot there and for fishing.
