Heading to the cabin with a 10 lb brisket for the 4th.
I have one rule this year, and that is that all the sides need to be homemade.
I’ll be making my mom’s potato salad which calls for a little French dressing. And I’m going to steal the baked bean recipe off of IDO. (Thanks Denny)
anyone else have some killer side dish recipes I should crank out?
    Maybe cole slaw…

I don’t have any recipes. But homemade potato salad and coleslaw are SO much better than store bought.

It’s best if you make that like the day before you want to use it. And mix it up good before pouring!

Gonna try bacon fried mexican street corn this year on the griddle. Looks tasty – should be a hit with the hungry beer drinkers.

If you are using my recipe I hope you enjoy it and you are so welcome! I’ve never had anyone yet that doesn’t want a little extra after they have had it.

To go with Brisket & Beans you can’t forget about a big ole dish of Homemade Mac & Cheese! Finish it on the smoker. So damn good!

This would be my go to with smoked beans.
This year the family is doing a big seafood boil. It’ll be the first year I don’t smoke ribs for my b day on the 4th

ABT’s would go well with the brisket as an appetizer

Brisket, potato salad, Calico beans, coleslaw, mac & cheese, and corn bread should cover everything for the main meal.

A macaroni salad is a great side too. Have a recipe somewhere that feeds about a dozen. Used to be a staple for the neighborhood gatherings.

[/quote] that i am not sure on. i happen to stock that at my part time gig at the grocery store. they only have 2 sizes. its Definity not the small one and i know clamato did away with the metal can. i always just grabbed the big jug not paying attention to how many oz were in it!

Bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers never disappoint. At a graduation party over the weekend my sister’s friend brought open faced cucumber sandwiches. Being so hot out, they were a big hit. Cocktail rye or wheat, cream cheese mixed with Italian dressing mix, top with cucumber slices and fresh dill. It made the absence of deviled eggs less noticeable and I’m sure they were a lot easier to make.

Clamato has no business near anything being consumed imo, I like almost everything but that ish is disgusting.

Calico Beans, Potato Salad, Coleslaw and mac and cheese are all awesome, especially with anything smoked.

Ive tried making smoked mac and cheese a couple times and never happy with the results. I think I need to find a different type of cheese to use because whatever I used before didnt melt to my satisfaction. Definitely had smoky flavor.

Not sure if it counts as homemade, but I’ve smoked a pan of mac n cheese from Costco a number of times. I smoke it for about 1/2hr, then cover it with foil until it’s hot. Stir in some crispy bacon and/or chopped jalapeno beforehand and your case for it being homemade is that much stronger.

Not the version I had. Have not made it yet, but cook bacon on flattop removed and chop as fine as you like then onion and corn goes down on the bacon grease and add the bacon back in and let it simmer together until corn is done. Might have missed an ingredient.

I resemble that remark! Sorry only had it twice on somebody else made it. It was good though.

My potato boat is always a hit while bwca camping.

lay down 2 layers of tin foil in a cross like shape. thinly slice baby red potatoes that are cut in half and add to the middle of the tin foil, adding several layers of chunks of butter and lowrys seasoning salt. liberally apply both butter and salt.

thoroughly wrap in a tin foil rectangle and let sit in the fridge for a minimum of 48 hours (preferably 72). This part is key!

Get some hot coals rolling in your campfire and place the potato boat off to the side of the fire grate. rotate and flip every 5 min or so until tender. Usually takes about 30 min depending on how hot the coals are and how thinly sliced the taters are.

It sounds simple but anyone that tries these potatoes say they are the best potatoes they’ve ever had.
