Oddly enough, a few years back I walked into a big box store and inquired about Flouro for leader material. After a lot of research I purchased some Seaguar and P-Line to give them both a try. I was using Trilene XL for years as my leader line. I will say, I am sold on the sensitivity of the Flouro as a leader, especially on likes like Mille Lacs where I use up to a 14′ leader. But, I did have more line breakage than with the Trilene mono, and struggled to figure it out. Ended up running a lot less drag to prevent breakage. One week long family trip to Leech, I figured out a pattern on the bigger Walleye, and my daughter broke off on 2 trophy fish that kills me yet today. Well before the trip, during the Gander store closing I was talking to an associate about switching back to Trilene XL if they had any left, and they did not, but he pointed me to a box full of Gander branded Flouro and said it was pretty decent line and it was less than $5 for 500 yards, so I picked up a few thousand yards figuring I could use if for spool filler if nothing else. Well, I sat there at Leech that night tying up new leaders with the Gander Flouro (Sunline I believe made it for them) and used it the rest of the trip, no breakage. I have now used it for a couple of years and never have had one break, ever. Not sure if it is because I figured out the lesser drag, or if it is the line, but I will keep using the Gander cheap Flouro for my leaders until it is all gone, which will be a long time.
