… is pretty disappointing. It’s got an odd aftertaste and we didn’t even finish the 6pk! It’s nothing compared to Not Your Father’s Root Beer. Has anyone tried the Not Your Father’s Ginger Ale? Curious to how that tastes, but I haven’t tried it yet.

If you enjoy a good Ginger Ale, this one is a dandy. It doesn’t have a heavy after-taste either. I read your post and then hit the liquid shop looking for this Ginger draft and am currently making out with a bottle This could be a nasty affair.

Ma has this affection, or affliction, for Schell’s Shocked, the grapefruit infused beer. Its a seasonal and just recently went in the local stores so I got her a six of those….maybe keep her out of my Ginger Ale. Maybe. The Ginger is pretty darned tasty.

Sharon, when you get this stuff home drink it on ice. I saw on the bottle the suggestion to ice it in a glass and did that with the last half of the bottle. Lordy is this stuff good when its even colder than cooler cold. It was pretty darned good from the bottle though.

I know this is a ‘hard’ root beer and similar type thread. But it is somewhat related.

If you like Ginger Ales you must try the Vernors brand. I recently found it at the Cub in Savage(not all Cubs carry it either), and it is not really a Midwest brand so it may be difficult to find.

It doesn’t have the chemical taste that the Schweppes and Canada Dry have and is not overly carbonated. It also has a very smooth and almost creamy texture.

I like the Vernors Ginger Ale. A local store carries it and for the everyday Ginger Ale its very good.

NYF Ginger Ale is great. I found it a little strange at first…..but gave it a second chance. …try it…

Well, this brings back some cherished memories. Many years ago when Sharon was a little girl, I told her all the root beer in the refrigerator was mine, it said so on the bottle. Dad’s root beer, right?

She didn’t fall for it whistling

    Dad’s root beer, right?

Hmm, maybe that’s why I grew to prefer the taste of Barq’s instead. You wouldn’t share the Dad’s Root Beer! I think of you, Dad, each time I see that root beer… and also Kudos bars! rotflol

The next few days sound like they’re going to be quite warm. (80s is too warm for me. Yuck.) Time to stock the garage fridge with some summertime beverages, and I think I shall start with the NYF Ginger Ale!

Coney Island Root Beer is the best…I think. I have some Magic Hats in my system now. It tastes exactly like root beer. Try it, you’ll realize NFR is a little off.

I’ll have to try the Ginger Ale.

Crannies Ginger beer is refreshing on a hot day, but I can’t drink more than one or two. Yes, ginger beer needs to be on ICE.

Love seeing the comments about the Not Your Father’s products! I work at the brewery that produces those products. Yes, I do drink both. The ginger-ale is good right out of the bottle/can, as is the root beer. However, I do have to say that I like the ginger-ale over ice or in a frosted mug better. The root beer is also great when poured over vanilla ice cream! BEST damn root beer float you’ll ever have!! A lot of our local bars sell the floats as a drink, too. Enjoy the Not Your Father’s products and bottoms up!!

A&W along with 1919 brand always reminds me of the very bad year for our country. It’s never been the same. <sigh>

I haven’t found a hard root beer that I can have more the one of yet.

I didn’t know about the ginger ale…I’ll have to check that out.

I just have a hard time breaking away from Hamm’s although The Lumber Yard Pub doesn’t carry Hamm’s and I’ve found a fondness to Coor’s Banquet.

    Sorry for the bunny trail.

Soldiersdad, I can tell you I’ll never have a hard rootbeer float. If it’s anything like beer and ice cream for me it is a lethal combination. Especially if I add pea soup to the mix. No I don’t mix them, I mean having them separately the same night.

One year I had those on purpose the evening before driving up to opener with my bro. Let’s just say the windows stayed down the entire drive.

Say BK, a customer I’m doing work for now works at the liquor store here in the city and said Hamm’s they can’t keep on the shelf.

I enjoy Zevia Ginger Root Beer. I really like the flavor and no sticky after taste. Low calorie, no artificial sweeteners either…

Stay away from Sprecher’s https://www.sprecherbrewery.com/soda.php then too. They have this at Menards and I picked up pack of Root Beer and Cream Soda. Maybe it was the “host of aromatic botanicals” in the Root Beer that gave it the aftertaste I didn’t care for but they both had an aftertaste so maybe it was the honey.

Back to A&W for me. lol

Keep up the GOOD work toast
I always have a few in the beer fridge.

I like Coney Island just not as much as Not Your Fathers Root Beer.

We picked me up some of the Not Your Father’s Ginger Ale… It’s amazing! This stuff is really good and I recommend it if you haven’t tried it yet! It’s funny, I was just at my sister’s house this afternoon and she hands me a NYF Root Beer and says “Have you had this yet? It’s awesome!” I laughed pretty good and she agreed the Best Damn Root Beer wasn’t as good as she thought it would be either.

    Stay away from Sprecher’s

Yep, we tried that one and we didn’t care for it. NYF seems to have the magic recipe!

As suggested, I look forward to trying NYF Root Beer over ice cream! I’m a big fan of ice cream and I don’t think I’ll mind a little booze with my dessert this summer. mrgreen

NYF Ginger Beer is the bomb! It’s not over powering like Crabbies, although I do miss the little tingle that Crabbies has. But I prefer NYF. And it says it’s beer. I think Crabbies is a malt liqour.

NYF I can drink more than one. I can see a twist on the Big Ginger and Moscow Mules in my future.

I know this is a “hard” root beer thread, but as I no longer drink I’d like to weigh in with a couple of softies. Currently, IBC or Hanks for me…in a cooler on ice for about 3 darn days. laugh Not too sweet like so many others, almost just the right taste. Our local ice cream shop uses a brand whose name escapes me at the moment, but it’s fantastic. I just haven’t been able to find it. And no…A&W isn’t the A&W I grew up on, and Sprecher’s is just nasty. Same for Pointe.
Best I’ve ever had I’ll never get again…the old drug store soda fountain that Grandpa would sometimes take me to after a days work with him. Frosty mug out of the freezer…always got stuck on root beer or the cherry coke. Both are a taste memory I’ve never found the equal to.

Anybody here remember, or better, get to meet the “Root Beer Lady” of the Boundary Waters?

Hanks is a great one, and 1919 keg root beer is amazing as well. We like that one so much we had two kegs of that at our wedding years ago. The root beer kegs emptied faster than the beer kegs!

The old Princess Café in Rochester back in the 50’s and early 60’s had a soda fountain where we’d get vanilla phosphates, cream soda by today’s standards but much better, or cherry phosphates. The cherry and caramel cokes were out of this world too. Ironically, I never had a “soda”. Man, those were the times….kids would get into fights and be friends again the next day. Nobody locked their houses up. A bicycle parked at school and left unlocked was there when school let out for the day. After school kids played outside and on weekends the only rule was if you wanted supper be home by 5 and we’d be gone the whole day and home by 5. People ate the supper meal at a table together. People respected each other back then.

Born in the 70’s or after? You missed the boat. Those soda fountains were fantastic for a whole lot of reasons other than just something to drink. These were where social life began, not facebook.

Try the Henry’s Hard Orange Soda. This stuff is wonderful. Just like Orange Crush. Perfect for mowing the grass. Not much alcohol in it though. I also tried the Ginger Ale but was not fond of it.
