Just a question, how far do you guys drive from the metro to your crappie lake ? I’ve been only catching 10-11″ crappies and would like to hammer some slabs. I’m a cnr guy and only keep fishing after the spawn. If you guys don’t mind sharing some lakes or private message instead. Thanks.

People spend years trying to find metro gems with big crappies in them. It’s like asking a gold minor where he finds all of his gold. Best advice is to start looking at MN lake finder and see what lakes have good size and fish them.

    Good luck.

Well those lakes you fish are garbage and you rightfully should move on, if you would do a guy a favor though and send me a list of those lakes so I can avoid them here in the metro that’d be great, really save me alot of time looking for slabs myself whistling

Being in the southeast metro, I drive about 30 minutes minimum for crappies. There are 10 or so lakes within 15-20 minutes of me and I have only fished 2 of them in the last 10 years, both are very small and I never see anyone on them. But like Brad said, it’s like asking a gold miner where he gets his gold. Faribault area gets a lot of pressure for panfish, and rightfully so…if that’s any hint… wink

I will say I’ve caught more big crappies accidentally on the metro river systems, than anywhere else locally be design.

I had a metro spot ten yrs ago that was producing 9 to 10 inch sunnies and 11 to 12 inch crappie on a regular basis but the homeowners drained the lake for weed control, people found out and now its gone

Here I’ll get all Zen on you: Crappies are hard to catch because they are easy to catch.
People find a good lake and/or spot and they fill up their freezer- retired people seasonal lay offs –you know who you are! Anyway I will drive a ways, find hard to access lakes or clear lakes with short windows. So if you are going to a lake that is at all clear count on driving in the dark either to or from the lake. Good Luck!

The metro lake with 12 to 14 inch slabs is the same one where bikini models valet park your rig, put your sunscreen on, and wait for you to come back to the landing and have cold beer waiting for you.

The closest clue I will give to my honey hole is look for smaller lakes next to the bigger ones that most people go to.

That said, 10-11″ crappies from lakes near the metro is doing pretty darn good.
