I have a HB Helix 9 mega si on the wheel. the Lakemaster chip is great. The HDS on the bow has an older Lowrance Insight chip. I think that’s the name. Just need something better. I like the shading option of the Lakemaster chip. The Insight chip is pretty basic. I don’t want to be downloading maps all the time. Some of the Navionics chips look interesting, but a fair amount of computer time. I get a bit confused by community edits and the like. I just want a decent preloaded chip. The shading options would be nice, too. Thanks for the help, Sam

Id be curious on chip opinions also. I have the same basic model you have, I am currently mapping out the lake I live on but I certainly wouldn’t go through that effort for any of the other places I fish.
I mounted my helix next to the hds gen 3 this summer. Its crazy how much better the helix is graphics / detail wise for the sonar.

I have 3 different chips in my Lowrance units and each have their place. I have the last Lakemaster chip that was supported on Lowrance units (2010), a Lowrance Lake Insight Pro chip and Navionics Platinum. Lake master and Lowrance chip are identical except with the Lowrance chip you get LOW and Rainy all on the same chip whereas you had to buy separate chip with Lowrance, so you get more with less, but its using the same data.
It really depends where you fish the most. I fish in Ontario every year and the Lowrance Chip has 1 foot contours for much of LOW even well into canada. Navionics has mapping as well, but it isnt as detailed, at least what I have loaded on my chip anyway.

Thanks. The Insight chip has tons of lakes, but it has no bells and whistles that come in handy sometimes.

Harder question than I thought, I guess. I must not be in the right forum.
