Best camera for underwater clarity/resolution recording

Anyone know which underwater camera would be best for its recorded picture (size and clarity)? I would like to add some underwater footage to a film project (1920×1080).

Is there a difference in recording quality to the cameras in the Marcum line? If not I would go the cheap route. I also noticed that Aqua-Vu has an HD camera so I would not count them out.

I have done some research but my head is spinning.

    Thanks!

There are a lot of variables to that question. water clarity and depth can make a big difference. Screen resolution can make a difference too. I have a fish scout 1000 by vexilar. It was one of the cheapest ones when I bought it 3 or 4 years ago. And it seems like the camera has gone to crap. It’s supposed to go from color to black and white Depending on light. Well it vary rarely goes into color mode even if it is out of the hole.My dad has an old marcum black and white and it out performs my vexilar.

    Hey Booger,

Marcum’s VS 385, 625 and 825 all use the same camera head (high-resolution color camera boasting SONY Super HAD II CCD optics).

A lot of the video capture will come from the type of recorder you’ll be using.

Brian is correct, the monitor isn’t going to be the determining factor for you, it’s all in the camera and recorder. All 3 units that he listed will have the best quality on the market for fishing camera units. All three units have a RCA video out port that you just need to connect a recorder of some type (they make RCA recorders or you can use a regular video camera if it accepts “video in”).

I actually have an extra brand new 625 listed on there classifieds. HERE

Maybe I am over thinking this? Monitor size should not be an issue. Capturing the video to the highest quality should not be an issue. The issue is if the video itself is garbage to begin with. For example, it would be like watching blurry footage in HD.

In addition – I also wonder if the image is ever interpolated up during capture?

Sorry, bear with me I am not a tech dude.

Most of the time the B&W will give you the best detail. Actually it will show the white tip on a walleye like its glowing. I have the color Marcum and most of the time at the depths we fish on Mille Lacs there is a green hue dominating the background. It kind of distracts from the image. The B&W can look much sharper. As you go deeper different colors get absorbed in the water column. In shallow water color looks much better. You can see the colors as they should appear. Weeds are green and sand is brown. I say it depends on what you are trying to film.

This video was shot in January on the Mississippi after the banks were frozen a the sediment settled.

Most of it was captured in 26 feet of water although there was a portion in 19 feet.

Interpolation will come from the video equipment your using. Not the MarCum.

You’re first question confuses me but that might be cause I’m not a tech dude either. )

The Aqua-Vu 760cz is the best one to get. 3X digital zoom, camera depth and direction, water temperature & a very clear picture. It has sun shade so it viewable display & comes with heater for cold weather.

Walleyeboy, he’s looking to record. Depth, direction, water temp, sunshade are non factors. The zoom? Possibly. waytogo

The better camera would be the most important feature then.
