Yeah, I always wonder how McD’s stays in business with all the other options for fast food and fast casual there are now that are so much better. I don’t know anyone who loves McD’s – just those like myself that tolerate it when there’s no better options. For example, International Falls. If you want a quick bite on the way to Canada, you pretty much got McDs, Subway or a gas station sandwich. S&G said it best – “Laugh about it, shout about it, when you got to choose – anyway you look at it you lose!” jester

Or if you’re coming into IFalls on 71 you got Hardee’s. I don’t think I have crossed the border once in the last 5 years (about ten times) and not eaten there. It’s become a ritual.

You’re far better off going to a bar or actual restaurant than going to McDonalds. You will likely save money too. I hadnt been to McDonalds in quite a while. Went there because I was craving a quarter pounder with cheese for some reason. Got a meal with a chocolate shake and it was $17!

It is crazy how much things have gone up….the quarter pounder meal was $5 forever and now it is $10…I still go there a couple times a year because of the good things they do mainly the Ronald McDonal house, we used it a few times while our son was at Children’s.

Ok has anyone tried the Green lantern on state hwy 18 between garrision and brainerd. There beef is locally sourced from a local beef farmer. And have home made buns. Great burgers fast and friendly service…

Tried the House of Gloor at Neisens yesterday with 2 buddies. We all had the classic. Holy crap that was good. I don’t have a masters degree in burgerology like a lot of you on here but I’d say it’s the best burger I’ve ever paid for. Told the wife we’re heading there again next week. I might even put on my big boy pants and try one of their more creative choices.

A coworker and I went to 5 guys in Maple Grove yesterday. 2 bacon cheese burgers 2 regular fries and 2 drinks was $48.

    Getting out of hand.

As I sit here and eat a burger and fry’s from Vals here in Saint cloud, Have to feel like even though its not the best burger, its probably one of the best values. Double cheese burger and fries was 6.53. I can not even get a hockey puck burger and fries from Mcdonnalds for that price. The small fry is not as large as it once was but still plenty. Not sure why its been so long since I last had a burger from here as its only about 2 minutes from my office. for those whop don’t know about Vals. Its a tiny building and pick up and take out only place. I hate to think how many burgers that place sells in a day. Its a ton for sure.

My lead tech at the shop said to me the other day. We stopped at this dive in St. Could over the weekend and had a really good burger and malt. Before he said where I said Vals, he was like yeah, how did you know and I told him all you Cloud guys talk about it. I need to stop by just don’t get in the area much.

I wouldnt call vals a great burger but its cheap and definitely hits the spot. The fries are legit though but believe me, dont get a large order. You will NOT need it. They fill the bag with them! The shakes are quite good! I love the blueberry cheesecake one!

I love Val’s, and we usually stop a couple times each summer on the way to or from the cabin. You are right, the burgers are not the best, but they are good and the price is right. 4 various burgers, more than enough fries and a couple shakes is usually about $30 for us, which would be about $60 at McDonalds.

I think Val’s went down hill dramatically since the boy took over. It seems the quality of meat has suffered the most.

MT’s on 8th used to be a good stop. Haven’t been there for a long time, so maybe they still stand a chance.

I’m still a fan of the burgers at Jill’s Cafe in Richmond and Trappers in Farming, just north of Richmond.

Lost Time’s Tavern is good as well. But maybe I’m biased since I’m friends with the owner.

Vals burger and fries for 6.53? That’s a steal. Anything under 10 bucks for a meal these days is actually quite reasonable.

You can’t get a combo meal at McDonald’s for under $12 anymore.

I Just went back out to Trappers for the first time and a long time and their food was good and the service was great.

Was in duluth on Monday and stopped at the Anchor Bar in Supperior. Three of us had burgers and Fries a pitcher of beer and a pop and the total was 40 dollars. The burgers were amazing and the fries were awesome.

Well now you could be talking about two different homes, the old Jill’s or the new location? I personally think their california burger is great, fresh toppings and a flattop burger. That’s the only thing I’ve ordered from Jill’s. I refuse to go out to eat for breakfast food.

Yep, I’m glad the grandson reopened Jerry’s. That used to be our go to for birthday parties during the summer months at the cabin. My only grip, then need to season their steaks better, and by season, they just need to add salt. It seems like they add little to none. But, they’re cooked nearly perfectly, so adding a little table side salt is a moot point.

The new place on 23. Across from Casey’s.

As far as Jerry’s a few of the older bots put that plan in place.

I just want to give a quick shoutout for Backyard Burger in Brooten. It is the old drive-in on the east side of town. They have some real good burgers made with meat from a local shop. The cheese curds were probably the best I have had outside of the best curds from the fair. I didn’t feel overcharged.

BEST BURGER UPDATE!! Even though the posts online have been few and far between as of late, the quest never stops in real life. Due to the long break we will be going mega thread with multiple reviews, on some big name heavyweights! A couple that ended up with a punchers chance at the crown and another a champ in a different title only. Bigger picture, I have a few absolute burger classics I need to hit yet, but that list is dwindling and I’m always open to new suggestions. My only caveat is no food trucks, temporary menus or other chicanery or tom foolery. If you want to be the boss, you have to be ready to be checked at anytime. Not the 4th Thursday in an odd month with a waxing moon. This is bigger than the big leagues, and there are (few) rules. So here we go:

    Kelly’s Lake City:
This great spot is the new sibling of Kelly’s in Red Wing, and overlooks the beautiful and massive Lake Pepin (biggest lake on the whole MIssissip). We pulled up proper from the lakeside and tied off on their massive dock. Plenty of parking dockside, so I think they stay busy. Order some Ellsworth cheese curds while you wait, really good light beer batter on the curds and even better honey butter and homemade ranch. As for the star of the show, I went with the 60/40 burger. 60% brisket 40% house cured pork belly, smokehouse bacon onion ring and pepper jack cheese. And a zesty sauce. This was really really good, the ground brisket and pork belly was crispy all over but still juicy and the onion ring and sauce were the crown, literally and figuratively. This place felt like a great lakeside bar and restaurant should, just like a Minnesotan feels most at home lakeside. Like International Falls great Frank Youse coming home back in ’62 and rocking the 7.2.

    Hope Breakfast Bar
This restaurant has an awesome story, and their breakfast is legit. Like one of the better a la carte breakfasts in all of the cities. But they are a breakfast bar, not a burger joint. And it shows. It was a perfectly fine and well executed burger, but came with hashbrowns and just didn’t move the needle at all for me. If you want to check this place out, just get there earlier and order breakfast. Kinda like Greg Beikert #5.4 should have got to the Vikes a couple years earlier.

    6Smith
This Wayzata juggernaut does what the Lake Minnetonka shore does best. Flaunt it. I believe this was the most expensive burger on the list at $23 before tax, title and licensing. But I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I had the A Fat Burger- bacon and onion jam, Blaser’s sharp cheddar fondue, Nueske’s bacon, LTO, brioche bun. This was ooey and crispy and gooey and that bacon and onion jam could make a Red Wing boot taste good. Perfectly done fresh cut fries, perfectly! This is a great place to treat yo self for that special night or just feel flaunty and wanna purify yourself on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. A Minnesota Classic like Matt Birk 7.8.
