I’ve been doing some burger reviews for fun on FB, and seeing the 5 Guys thread made me realize it would be a good topic here. As of now I’m not going to repost each review, but here’s my list thus far. Let me know what places to add to the list!

No Matts Bar ? No 5-8 Club ? Blasphemy

Matt’s is at the top of the to-do list, those frauds at the 5-8 will get a visit when I’m ready. whistling rotflol FWIW I just started this 2 years ago, and didn’t include places (like Matt’s or Val’s) that I’m a big fan of but haven’t been to recently.

Trying to follow your number ranking – I get that these are the numbers of the players listed but is this also a ranking of best to worst? Have you not had burger worthy of Danielle Hunter (9.9) yet?

I wouldnt call myself worldly like the the rest of you guys, going all over the place, doing this and eating that. But even in my small culinary experiences I wouldnt list Lions Tap that high. Just had it the other day. Not saying it wasnt delicious for price. (work bought it). We eat there quite often and they are definitely hit and miss with the salt level, to the point of unedible at times.

Correct best to worst, and while possible, highly unlikely I experience an Al Noga/Danielle Hunter as that would mean there is no other better burger ever to be had.

If the Timber Lodge is still open up on highway 53, their Timber Burger was awesome.

Been to red cow twice. First time the burger was good and second time it was not. Don’t plan on going back for the price

Nook takes the top spot for me. Fitgers in Duluth with the olive burger is a close second.

Shortstop in Coon Rapids for an official dive bar burger.

Anyone have any suggestions for the Hudson, River Falls, Red Wing, Hastings areas? We’ve done Kings before on the way to the cities and thought the burgers were good. I wouldn’t put them off the chart though.

When the wife drags me to concerts I’m always pushing for food and drinks on this side versus in the cities at double the cost for worse food.

Werm how far do you travel for the reviews? You find me a drop dead burger along the river, and I’ll put you on fish when you’re down here waytogo

Haha I thought I was covering some ground, but probably not making it to Fargo or Breckinridge (previous recommendations here) any time soon at least. Personally I’d recommend Red Cow or Parlour, they are both in the cities but reasonably priced, close to the big arena concerts and the best of the best imo. Dan’s in New Trier is a little off the river, but could be on your way and they have awesome food and better burgers than King’s imo. Although I like some of their other stuff more than the burgers. I saw Bayside in RW posted a burger recently that looked legit, but haven’t had it yet. Kelly’s has solid food in RW too, but wouldn’t go out of my way for it. In the summer just go get some Hager Heights chicken and you are set.

Short Stop is added to the list, and Blue Door has been on it, they are the GOAT of Jucy Lucy’s imo.

Sickies Garage is awesome. I’ve been to the one in Sioux Falls and Bismarck. The variety of burgers there is unlike anywhere else I’ve seen.

I grew up on 105th ave. My wife and I used to go there for a burger a few times a month. Used to go there for lunch on occasion too. This was back in the ‘00s. Didn’t go there much since our oldest was born in ‘14.

You know it’s good when the don’t have a sign anywhere in the building and the lot is full.

Fish Tale Bar & Grill in New Prague probably deserves, at a minimum a Keith Millard! They’re awesome – not gourmet like a few in your 8 and 9 rankings – but big, meaty & juicy with think bacon and a really good bun (often overlooked component) –
I recommend the Lake Superior Burger. 1/2 lb hand formed patty, bacon, cheese, lettuce Tomato, Onion and Mayo. Nothing fancy but done right!

Anyway, here’s hoping you never find your Gary Anderson!

Shantytown in Bloomington, great dive bar burgers. Top notch tater tots as well. Reasonable prices – $7.75 for a bacon cheeseburger. Their Club sandwich is also really good.

T-Bones in West Duluth. Or the Anchor Bar and Grill in Superior. Both are dynamite good on the burgers.

    Nook is tops.
A Juicy Lucy is a novelty burger, that’s a different category IMO

Crooked pint in st cloud is great. The best burger I’ve ever had however is at the Wilton liquor store my goodness! Corner in bemidji used to have the best burger but since they rebuilt it’s not as good and Wilton is amazing.

BigWerm if you ever make it to Gunnison CO you have to check out the Power stop gas station on the north side of town.
Simply awesome burgers. They have won numerous awards. Do not judge the place by its looks though. Those pot smoking cooks can cook.

When I used to elk hunt there we had a ritual. The morning before hiking in we would hit up the power stop for a chorizo breakfast burrito. Two weeks later when we would hike out of the mountains we hit them up for a burger before hitting the road.

I’m not against Kings but I think it’s more of a novelty attraction than anything. I’m in your general region Bucky and like you I life in the country. We rarely, rarely ever eat out so I don’t have a ton of recommendations for you. But the Homeplate bar/grill in downtown red wing is pretty good. Alost everyone has tried Smokin’ Oak in Red Wing but the place truly never lets me down.

The Taphouse restaurants in Rochester make a burger with cheese curds and a cheese sauce on top, plus I add lettuce because I have to have lettuce on a burger. Those cheese curd burgers are the best burgers I ever have, and I love getting a good cheeseburger.
