Best braided line

Just looking for some advice on braided line that doesn’t freeze up too much. I realize mono is best in cold but prefer braid. So far I’ve tried power pro and power pro ice. Both freeze up about the same. Wondering if there’s something else out there that sheds water better.

Sufix 832 has a gore tex fiber in it. However, I have never used it in the cold.

Try the Berkeley Nano. I think that’s supposed to be decent in the cold.

Powerpro ice has always worked the best for me, I have it on all my ice rods. Not sure why yours froze up

I had good results using the CPT Frost Ice Line made by Sunline for Clam. Ised the braided line in the UP of Michigan mostly outside. Had Powerpro and Suffix also tied on and ended up switching to the CPT.

They all form ice beads pretty much the same. There’s nothing getting around freezing temps and water.

Slippery is right. I have yet to find a line of any type that doesn’t freeze up.

Yup. I switched to mono for outside rods, braid on shack rods.

Resurrecting an old post here. I like to fish outside in fairly cold temps for lakers. Is there a braid that doesn’t soak up water? The garbage I use now expands in size when it’s frozen so when it dries out it is loose on the spool. not to mention the huge pia when it’s frozen solid and i’m trying to fish.

Didn’t bank the icehouse last week and the holes kept freezing up.

Sufix Ice Braid did pretty decent but did get 1 ice bead where the line met the water.

Nanofil worked pretty well but Berkley has discontinued it. It didn’t absorb water, had no stretch and when ice formed it was easy to just strip the ice off the line.
When open water fishing early spring and late fall it was great and it was the best casting line I’ve used.
I’m thinking of trying the new thermally fused Fireline for ice fishing and open water.
Anyone have any experience with this new thermally used Fireline on the ice?

I use frost braid all the time out in the weather. Ice that does form wipes right off if you don’t let it get too thick.

I’m looking for a new line also since Berkeley nonofil has been discontinued. Few things I’ve been trying is treating the line with something like WD40 or Silicone spray. Also treat the guides to the same, Pam and have heard of using Bert’s bees chapstick.

I don’t use braided line for lakers in the winter. I typically use 12 lb pline. I don’t like how braid digs into the ice, is not as abrasion resistant and doesn’t have any stretch. I hook at least half my fish less than 10 feet down so I like a little stretch. I cut off Chaffed line as needed.
The only time I use braid is in 150 plus feet on superior.

Some offer better resistance to the frozen expansion on the spool than others. And again equipment also plays a very important role in also reducing the frozen expansion of braided lines on the spool.

At the top of my pick would be Fireline. It’s fused so it prevents water from getting in between the weaves.

Brand new line, YGK G-Soul Upgrade fresh from the spool could fool me that it was mono. The surface finish on it is so smooth it almost feels like mono by touch too. Except one knows it’s not because of the lightweight feel of braid fibers.

Even Sufix 131 G-Core is very good too. Fresh line is very water resistant and better than 832 Advance.

In the end, cold temps and water will still freeze on all these lines.

    Anyone ever try this line?

I like the CPT from sunline/clam. I have a couple rods spooled up with fireline ice(one 6lb and one 8lb) but they seem stiffer than the Clam braid.
