Good morning all! My wife and I are visiting family who live on Lake Minnetonka next week (I believe Forrest Bay). Being from Maine, I’ve never caught a walleye through the ice and would love to catch my first. Which bay or area of lake Minnetonka is best for walleye? What depth should I be fishing this time of year? Thanks!

See http://www.outdoornews.com/Minnesota/Fishing-Reports/ for some recent reports on Minnetonka. They should be updating this today as well.

Carson bay seems to be the spot for now. Use caution on Minnetonka as the ice thickness is not uniform this early in the season. Stay with the packs and use a spud bar to test.

    Best of luck to you!

I know Browns bay is always one of the best in the summer months. I’d guess it would be good in the winter as well. Good luck. Hope you can check this one off your list.

stay on the beaten path, if you go on carsons make sure you park in the right areas, there are walleyes in that entire lake, some bays are better than the others also some decent crops in there too to keep you entertained till the walts move in.

Check out Diamond Reef in Smiths Bay if you can make it that far. Otherwise, head over to Wayzata Bait and ask.

DO NOT go through any channels!!!

    X2. Can’t stress this enough.

Definitely won’t get close to the channels! Do I need to be concerned with the ice along the shoreline? I hear its been a little warm and rainy up that way lately…
