We are coming up late January for a trip on Mille Lacs. Where does everyone get their bait from, and what do you recommend?

65 bait and tackle if your taking 65 up Todd is a great guy with great bait!

Add Garrison sports to the others mentioned. Good Guy. Northwest side.
Johnson Portside SE corner of lake.
Mix of suckers and shiners for walleye.
Sorry Dutch just trying to get my post count up. I have a box fan that I need to sell.

You guys use fatheads to tip spoons and whatnot with still? I’m assuming the suckers and shiners are for set lines. Also, does anyone use chubs there?

Fat heads yes on jigging spoons.

Yes to fatheads on active baits(and even setlines). Not sure it’s worth the price or hassle to use shiners, and rainbows/red tails are too active and energetic IMO, although some swear by them.

Small-medium suckers can be a good setline option, just need to rig them right.

I’ve always had more luck with suckers on set lines over shiners/fats/rainbows on Mille lacs in the winter. I don’t clip the fin or do anything to the sucker. Just plain hook through the back behind the dorsal. Sometimes I’ll give it a shorter leash than typical.

Jig rod is tipped with a fat head unless I am using plastics.

Has the day bite been good this year or mostly night bite? I have heard a couple good reports but both were at night. I was thinking about running over for a day this weekend.

I second Finny. Always go suckers on set lines over anything else.

I am a sucker guy too, but know folks that use shiners with success.

I’ll echo what everyone else is saying, small suckers are my go to for Mille Lacs.

Tutts in garrison is a great operation and the owner supports a ton of local projects.
