My strike master just died last night, it’s 12-25 yrs old so it did well but now to spend too much on what? Thanks for your input

    Go get yourself another strikemaster.
Just get one that doesn’t drink gas. I have the 40V, but the 24V sure looks attractive.

Lots of options! I think for a traditional auger the strikemaster electric is the way to go. I used to own the Ion. Too slow for me.

If you want light weight and speed, I prefer a strikemaster paired with a heavy duty drill.

    Good luck with your decision.

I have a honda powered strikemaster 4-stroke. Really quiet but it is sluggish in cold and handling gas sucks. I would go electric if I could get my money back and have a do-over

Like others have said. I’d go electric rather than gas. If you do want to stay with gas I would not pay for a new one. People are selling real nice used ones everywhere for cheap. Look on Craigslist or Facebook market place and you most likely with find a great deal.

I love my electric ION with adapter and 8” K-Drill installed. One thing about the ION is that even with their battery upgrades, the newest batteries fit my first generation power head. My auger has been going strong since 2016 with no problems.

Where are we technology wise on late season ice? Can electric compete with gas yet drilling lots of 3 foot holes? I love my older ion the first half of winter but switch to gas once it can’t handle it.
