Ok, I don’t have many cranks for bass what would be a good all around crank for bass I mostly now have few of the JSR-7 jointed plastic shad raps. Any thing else I would want to cast with a Bait caster. Looking for versatility and under $8 bucks a lure.

X-Rap, you can find them on sale for $8 or a little less, but most of the time they’re $9 ish.

I’ve been having nothing but luck on craw fish colored square Bill’s. Storm arashi square 3,and 5s.
But it all depends on the day and time of year. Spring all I throw is jerk baits. Then the perch color patterns are my go to.
Right now I’m throwing something with a fat body that drives 10 to 14. But last night with the cooler weather my fish were all shallow and the square bill was the key. Pulled in on a 5.4 to 1 reel

Any thing but rapala. Should have been my answer. I will not buy rapala cranks any more. They are crappy crap.

Rapala still makes cranks with great action, lots of people on this site have been complaining about materiels and workmanship, shame.
These huge companies, always someone who makes a proposal that maybe saves 50cents per unit. That turns into millions in savings, dude gets a big bonus. Of course the guy with the big bonus all along claimed we would not notice a difference in quality. Time to demand quality and complain when stuff is crap.

The x rap is technically not a crank bait. It is a jerk bait. It is designed to be snapped in with an erratic retrieve whereas a crank bait is designed to be reeled in with a steady retrieve or trolled.

That may be true, but with the bigger sized ones (XR10) I’ve had great success for LMB by doing a straight retrieve and pause. I do jerk the small XR6 ones for SMB though. The versatility of the X-Raps is great.

I agree with Bearcat too that small, wide body squarebills are very effective as well.

For down to about 6ft or so I like the Strike King KVD 1.5 and 2.5s Squarebills. The arashi’s are decent to for this depth. I like both for fishing over weeds and such. For fishing deeper, then the Rapala DT 6 thru 16’s work good.
A lot of other brands and stuff out there to use, but this is just a good starting point.

I have been always a fan of lipless crankbaits. The can catch everything and work well ripping through vegetation. I do find they work better in cooler water because of the tight wobble.

Storm Wiggle Warts are solid, also Bandit 100,200, and 300 are nice

Strike King KVD Squarebills. I would put them up against anything. Great action, great depth great colors. $5-7 Just came out with a deep version that goes 8-10 ft.

Then you go with the XD series when you want to crank deep.

Tackle Warehouse, Land Big Fish have Bandit crankbaits. I’m pretty sure Cabelas and BPS also have them.

This time of year I would buy a couple Rapala DT’s and experiment with depth (I’d start with a DT 6 and a DT 10).

In the Spring/Fall when the water temps are below 60 degrees go with a jerk bait (I prefer Shadow Raps).

Bomber lures are cheap and always reliable in performance.
