I’m going on 3 years with the Piscifun Carbonx 2000…own 3…I love ’em. Other than those I’m still running the old bomb proof $49 Pflueger Presidents I’ve been using for at least 10 years each. Daiwas are smooth, but I’ve never been impressed with their drag systems.

Enjoy those old bomb proof presidents because the new models are not worth a crap. I have some 8-10 year old ones that work better than some that are only a year or so old.

Funny you should say that about Daiwa’s drags. That’s the one good thing that they were always know for.

I may have to give a Piscifun a shot on my next reel.

Agree on the Daiwa for the money. Have a Vanford and a Stradic and love those but for the price point you can’t beet the Daiwa lately.

Nobody ever mentions the Daiwa Revros but I have a bunch of those and like them. I have four of the original ones and two of the “LT” versions. They come in a 2000 size, which I prefer vs 2500s usually, and a lot of other Daiwa models don’t.

Just picked one of those up to pair on my new St Croix Panfish Series Rod. I am impressed so far.

I really enjoy my Piscifun Carbon X. I was using all President Supreme XT’s but have slowly changed them out. They are an incredible value around $50 that would easily compare to some of the mid-high range reels on the market. Tom Boley generally has discount codes in his YouTube video descriptions.

Okuma Ceymar’s are a great reel for the $$

These are all I buy anymore. Been using a few years now.
Smooth. Low cost ($45). Excellent drag in any weather.

Okuma Ceymar. Maybe just get two of them. Otherwise, anything from Shimano, Daiwa, or Pflueger that tickles your fancy.

    Okuma Ceymar.

As big of a Daiwa fanboy as I am, I bought a Ceymar for one of my walleye ice rods this past season and was pretty impressed with it.

That’s what I run on my ice rods.

Pflueger Supreme is one of the better options in the 100 dollar range.

This! I like the President Series also, and they are less expensive.

No, the handle does not fold. Also make sure the cap opposite is tight. I bought 2 when the first came out. Second day the cap was missing. Took Daiwa over 3 months to get the back in stock. I called an authorized repair center, asked if they had parts for the new Fuego. They said no, but when I find a new cap lock tight it on. Before I mentioned what part I wanted. Guessing I wasn’t the only one. My guess they have addressed the issue by now.

Leaving a lot of money on the table imo spending $100 on a spinning reel.

Shimano Sienna are $30. Feel one compared to one with a bigger sticker on it and tell me if you think it’s worth the extra $. If you’re set on spending $100, I’d spend extra on the rods and save on the reel. They’re smooth and the drag is great. Stood up to a 2 hour sturgeon fight with no issues.

I wouldn’t spend more than $100 on a spinning reel either, but I do think a $50 Diawa regal or a President is far better than the Siennas. I pulled the trigger on a $55 Legalis from Joe’s, I am really excited to try it out.

Just received my order from Joe’s. I have to say my first thoughts are WOW. Especially the Legalis. To me this reels seems just as smooth or even smoother than the Fuego. If these Reels hold up well over time, Daiwa may be my new reel of choice. Another thing I like better about the Legalis is that the handle folds ( It does not on the Fuego ) That’s not a big deal on my summer reels but it is on my ice fishing reels. Once again only time will tell, but if they hold up they are great reels for the cost, Especially the Legalis at 69.00 ( Less if you find on sale )

Just a question to those of you with Daiwa Legalis’s. Do any of you have a problem when filling line with the line not loading evenly on the spool? I had a problem where it loaded more line towards the top of the spool than the bottom. Online I found several post saying others had the same problem and had to add a extra small washer on the shaft below the spool. I found a old shot reel and removed the washer and added it to the new reel, and ran the line out and spool back on and it loaded perfectly. Not sure if a 2nd washer was missed on some reels or if there is only suppose to be one. Didn’t have the same issue with the Fuego ( Different setup on shaft below the spool ) I know in some reels in the past they have came with extra washers or shims in the box. This reel did not appear like it did.

Fighting a sturgeon for 2 hours is a issue. I run siennas on my crappie set ups, for walleye or bass I want to step up a bit. And for me it was the sahara but not the new ones.

I haven’t spooled up the Legalis I got from Joe’s (same model as fishthumper’s) but it came with the small washers. I was wondering what they were for.

Yes, it’s worth it all day every day. When you fish for something other than panfish or more than a couple times a month the Siennas wear out fairly fast. The drags on the reels in the $70-100 range are superior as well.

Bought 4 Scheel’s Outfitter Daiwa reels regularly $100 for $80 at the Fish Fest this weekend. They put my Stradics to shame. Maybe the best money Ive spent on fishing lately.

Returned 2 of the Scheels guide reels.First one the drag was sticking, took apart to clean it and there were metal flakes coming off the top of the spool and only 1 paper thin felt washer that was worn rite thru..Thought what the heck I will try another so exchanged for a new one.Had the guy spool line on and put it back in the box,got home and it made an awfull noise when reeling, returned again.Okuma I wanted was not in stock so ordered the picsifun carbon x,10 times better drag than the Scheels reel. The carbon-x has multiple carbon drag washers versus the one paper thin felt washer on the Scheels Guide reel.1 paper thin felt drag washer on a 100 dollar reel?I have taken apart drags on 30dollar reels that were better built than the Scheels Guide reel, only good thing about it was it was easy to return. When I need another reel it will be a carbon-x.

Haven’t tried the new model Legalis. Not sure if the difference is just paint job or internal but glad you like them. I had the same reaction when I got my first Legalis.

Update on the line loading issue. There was extra washers / Shims in the box. They got below the box flap. Took off the one one I added and replaced it with 1 of the extra ones that it came with. Line loads fine now.

Yep found them in a small bag in the box ( They got caught under the box flap ) Not sure if yours will need a extra one or not. If it seems like the line is loading more on top than on the bottom I’d add a extra washer. The uneven line load issue was rather noticeable on the reel I received. I think I may even to add another one. I’m going to fish it a little first to see low the line lays after it gets fished some.

Fishthumper yes on 1 of my Fuego’s I needed to add one washer and fine. the others did not don’t know why a little disappointing at first but all good now. Also my other Daiwas a few needed them Revros, Regal as well. Love the drags on all of them

Slight highjack, but this seems to be the crowd that would know, who makes Scheels rods? I always assumed 13 fishing but is it also Diawa?

Question, has anybody purchased a Legalis and didn’t use the shims and washers they provided? Seems like it should work right out of the box.
