Crappie fishing still remains hot on almost every piece of water I have fished. Size and numbers have been the most amazing part of this year. Along with big fish I am catching just about every year class the lakes have to offer which is a good sign for the future. Fish have been in the beeper basins as they should be this time of the year but obviously is very lake dependent with some lakes holding crappies in that 15-20 FOW range with weeds near by, with other lakes the basins are hot! In the basins the crappies are moving VERY fast and are chasing golden shinners around like it’s there last meal! We have caught fish on small darters down to lindy bugs! The fish are literally that aggressive and will eat anything if you’re on them. Here is a good fish from an outing earlier this week.
As I said earlier a majority of the lakes are holding fish in that 30 FOW range but the fish are half way down above all the smaller gills towards the bottom. Without a Vexilar you would have ZERO clue these fish are even this high in the water column, So next time your out on a crappie hunt don’t forget to check high in the column for those bigger/aggressive fish!
