Wow what a season it has been as far as the weather is concerned. Woke up this morning to what felt like a heat wave! It rained up here this afternoon and really is hurting the ice. One good thing is the snow cover is gone so any cold weather we have will really progress the ice making. I am finding anywhere from 1-6 inches of ice on smaller lakes around the area and REALLY depending on the body of water as far as ice thickness goes. Shore lines is where the ice is the thinnest on some lakes due to the bottom but the main ice isn’t terrible. This warm up kept us off the ice today but they are calling for a cooler temps tonight so we will see.

As far the fishing goes the crappies have been on the chow! We fished a small lake late last week and found a bunch of hungry fish right on the edge of a basin. Ice was good all the way to our location but we still used extreme caution. Fish came out of 20 FOW and were off the bottom about 2-3 feet. The hot bait for me was the new Watsit Ice Jig in Pink. Almost 75% of the fish had the whole bait inhaled and were charging up for it on every drop!

Ice is still very thin for this time of year and mother nature is sure taking her sweet old time. Be safe out there and good luck!
