Late report from last Saturday 8/29 here, but had to post–or boast, actually.
Had been wanting to try the trolling bite with my older son Henry (age 6) for a while. A big thanks to KWP for taking us out in the Sherman Tank.
We had a terrific time out there and, of course, just after KWP was talking about how the bigger fish don’t necessarily fight the hardest at first, Henry sticks one and starts to reel it in, all by himself. WTG big man! Henry was thrilled, but it’s getting to the point where now he’s going to only want to fish with KWP. Which means he’s kind of elbowing in on the secret to my success…
By P2 trolling standards it wasn’t hot action, but I always bring up the fact that there’s a VERY short list of other places within 20 minutes drive of the Metro area where you can reliably get 12-15 walleyes caught in 3 hours of fishing in August.
The action was on Flicker Shads and Smash Shads, I was using mainly a #6 size in Flickers or the similar size of Smash Shad. All the usual suspect colors paid off, Firetiger, Blue, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Great fun, and many thanks to KWP! We had an awesome time.
