doubtful its in stock. i’ve looked for a while this year and every single Cabelas store and online is out of stock of every trolling rod. it says its in stock, but once you try paying it tells you no stock available. My local FF was bare bones too. found the last 2 spools of leadcore at scheels few months ago.

Lots at gander tonight. But I try to give them very little to no business.

For copper or lead, I run Okuma Magna 45,s with Diawa Great Lakes, 9 ft med heavy, hmr, 2 pieces. I prefer the breakdown rods, 2 rubber bands on the ends and you can stick them anywhere. DK.

So what’s a good rod and reel combo for lake superior to get 10 colors? Reel I suppose is most important what size would that be?

Suggestions for under $80 with line counter

Rods its sounds like personal preference…I like the longer for applications when fishing.

Lake Superior and trout fishing is a different story. You will want to spend more than $80 on just the real itself imo…10 colors of lead is a lot of line to real up especially with a laker on the end. You can get away with anything for a couple hours but if you are going to invest some time I would invest some money into my reel. Check Craigslist guys selling used Great Lake stuff all the time.
Okuna and Penn is what I run for salmon/ Trout…only because I can getter better deals on them.

Walleye fishing I agree with 95 percent of what Bman said. I prefer regular suffix performance lead core vs advanced for fishing 30 ft or less. 5 ft per color is more accurate and easier to adjust. Deeper water which I believe Bman fishes more superior and LOW 7 ft advance makes more sense as you do not have to send out as much line.
    My suggestions
Line counter not to cheap I have stripped several cabellas reals especially the clicker. Probably fine for minimal use. Calibrate them.
Telescoping rod if you are just running two. 7’6 or longer 2 shorties if you are running more.
Backing can be whatever you want braid can get more lead on a real. But may want to run boards on mono.
Leader people will have their different reasons for that. Length type etc..I don’t go to long on most lakes 10-15 ft as I don’t want to figure the dive of lire much past that. I know guys that run much longer.
No swivels in my world knots are much smoother on guides.
Reel I prefer a cranking style handle than a double paddle. Lots of line and weight easier on the hands.
Putting a full 10 colors of lead on a walleye rod is pointless unless you plan on fishing 50 plus ft.

Just built up my 8th rod this week. Buddy gave me a rod he built that was 9’6” medium telescoping rod and I paired with Okuma 203D. Fit seven colors very easy. I put an extra color or two on in case I break some off.
Not my favorite way to fish but can be very effective.

Leadcore is like braid it will slip if there isn’t backer. You also can add more backer to calibrate the line counter better.

so what is the purpose of backer? is it because leadcore is spendy? I can’t ever expect to have more than 100 yards of lead out behind the boat.

Are you planning on running this on a planer board? If yes you do not need a line counter because you will feed all 10 colors before you attach the board. 10 color lead fits nicely on a okuma convector 55 which you should be able to get for around 80$. But by the time you put your backer and lead core on you will spend another 50$ on that line. There is no need for a line counter when ruining lead. The colors will tell you how much line you have out. If you ever need to figure out more line past your lead you can count your passes on the reel which can be pretty accurate.

Line counters are not 100% necessary, but I will never troll with out them again.

If you are going to put out 10 colors you need backing, if your going to use a planner board. DK. backing on all colors, unless , no boards.

I don’t plan on running boards or fishing deeper than 30 feet. I guess worst case is I unspool it all if it don’t work?
