I had some Yuengling at a User Conference and thought it was the best beer I’d ever tasted.
Now the problem is Ohio is about the closest place I can find it from MN.

Does anyone know how I would go about getting some without traveling hundreds of miles to get some?

I think a lot of beers are made just to be different and many if not most taste like crap. I dont like strong hops so virtually every IPA is off my list.

Totally agree. IPA makers are just plain trying too hard to be different and in most cases “different” = bad. For every 1 IPA that tastes good, there are now 20 overhopped, overdone, overwrought, and over-before-they-started IPAs out there that smell of foul barnyard odors and have undertones of cat urine and citrus that has sat on the counter too long.

Unfortunately, it now looks like most of the new “craft” breweries are one trick IPA ponies who are unable to think outside the IPA box except to offer a stout with the predictably overdone coffee/chocolate additives and a generic blonde beer just cause they had to.

Here’s hoping that the IPA fad blows over soon and the craft brewers discover that “different” means more than another IPA.

Anyone remember a beer called Summit EPA? It was launched in 1986. That was 30 years ago. Can anyone name a fad that has only grown in popularity over a 30 year time span? If you want a beer fad look at the various “dry” lagers that are no longer marketed.

I think you see a lot of Pale Ales because they’re popular. It would make no sense for a craft or micro brewery to try to compete in the lager market. What you have in the craft beer scene are individuals brewing beers they want to brew. Just like you see variations in the preferences in Lagers, it would make sense you’d see the same thing in pale ales. I think you see multiple versions in a brewers roster to cover people’s individual tastes.

If someone doesn’t prefer a particular style they’re in luck because there are endless possibilities out there right now.

Ales are also easier and faster to brew than lagers. Lagers are brewed at a lower temperature, and therefore take longer to ferment. It is easier for smaller craft brewers to produce and distribute with their smaller or limited space and equipment.

Off the top of my head the NFL, Computers, Rap music, cable television….

I do think it is funny how “popular” craft breweries are and how “hip” they are now. We’ve been blessed with GREAT beer in MN for decades (or longer), but apparently people didn’t notice as much until it was a Triple Smoked Chocolate Porter, with a catchy name served by a guy in a beard and a flannel who has never left Minneapolis. Summit and Schell’s still make a lot of my favorite beers, just as they have for years. Same applies to Yuenglings.

    move?

The last story I heard as to why they don’t sell West of a certain area is that one of the big beers stole the eagle and font?

Had a strong ale last night. Been trying to reduce the number of bottles in the house. Purchased this shortly after bottling in 6/2014 from Steel Toe in St Louis Park.

    Wine barrel aged.

What does everyone think about wheat beers? I liked Blue Moon the first time I tried it. Then I heard it was a woman’s beer. So I shunned it.

Then I tried Tomoka Hazy Sunrise, a Florida beer and liked it. Unbeknownst to me it was a wheat beer. I like it because there is zero hop citrus/bitterness.

So if I have to turn in my man card, so be it. I probably lost it long ago anyway.

Wheats are great day time, boating beers as far as I am concerned.

Good ‘ol Busch Light for me. It’s Delicious, and goes good in every situation! Hot days, cold days, for lunch, dinner, and sometimes a late night snack, at parties or by myself, with the wife or chubby side action, in a bar, at a funeral, camping, fishing,at the neighbors, visiting my in laws, at a pool, before a job interview, with pizza, while babysitting, on the phone, while posting on LSF, going to parent teacher conferences, mowing lawn, etc. I cannot think of anything that wouldn’t be better while having a blue smoothie.

Drifter…lol, that’s how I celebrate life as well. I have “edited” your post to reflect my beer of favor. In fact I’m having one (well more than one) right now! toast

Forgot to post this one. Found two loose bottles of KBS at a local last weekend. Celebrated with one after opening up the cabin last Saturday.
Someone gave me a bottle to try so I still have two remaining. I hope to age one for a year but I doubt it will survive. Bourbon barrel aged stouts don’t last long around me.

It would make for a great breakfast beer, hence the name, Kentucky Breakfast Stout. Lots of coffee aroma and flavor with chocolate.

Founders, what a great Brewer especially of dark beers. I’ll have to try that one if I can find it.

Try the Southernmost Wheat from Florida Brewing Company. Its a great wheat brewed with key limes.

If you find it, grab it if you are into that sort of beer. Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it, especially for the price. It comes out annually the beginning of April and usually sells out quickly. Sales are usually limited to two four-packs when released.

This was the first year I looked for it and never saw a four-pack in the south metro. I lucked into two loose bottles hidden in the cooler after chatting with a store employee last Saturday morning. I was asking about Deschutes Abyss rye when he offered the hidden stash.

I liked Abyss better and will be stocking up when it is released after Thanksgiving. toast
