My wife bought a few of these for me, as much as a joke as anything, but they aren’t ‘bad’. Not something I would want on a regular basis, but not bad, certainly not nasty to this guy’s taste buds. I see the can says it’s made in white bear lake.

Pug you have turned into such a yuppie. lol

I have a hard time drinking American lagers from the big Brewerys. I like a little more flavor.

I’m also a sucker for strong beers. St Bernardus ABT 12, Swamp Ape and anything Dogfish Head.

Outside of that I like local micro brews. Cigar City is the Surleys down here. It’s fun going to small brewery tap rooms and sampling their beers.

I’m starting to dig Corona Light with a lime.

If you like ABT 12 you have to try Rochefort 10 and Chimay blue. All of the Rochefort beers are amazing! I love Belgians!

Trying new beers is half the fun. We’re in the golden age of beer choices, why not sample?!

Their Bad Axe which is an Imperial IPA I believe is really good too.

A few years ago, my BIL moved from Indiana to Virginia. He loaded up the back of his truck with Yuengling and drove it back to Indiana to trade a friend for a gas grill! rotflol

    Finnegan’s Irish Amber.

Bought it the 1st time just to try something different, and it is amazing. After drinking it for awhile just because it is a great beer, I discovered that 100% of the profits go towards stocking food shelves. I am not sure if that makes my beer consumption tax deductible, but now my drinking benefits the community…

Anyone remember City Club beer? That was a good beer! I still have one of their bottles. It’s filled with cattails and pheasant feathers now.

I always have a couple cases of my own home brew on hand so that is what I drink on most occasions. If I had to drink something from the store it would be one of these:

    New Castle Brown Ale
    Moose Drool
    Alaskan Amber
    Blue Moon
    Land Shark
    Coors Light

How about beers to avoid. Here’s one.

Nice fish themed can though. This Brewer has a blonde that I think I like the though. St Pete’s Daughters Brewing. May not be available in your area. )

I got Goose Island IPA & Summer Time. It was Bogo on Goose Island and publix, so I’m not going to complain.

    But I should….

Had to resurrect the thread for all those that think the craft beer scene has gone too far. Haven’t tried it yet but I present the “HOPCROMANCER”. I’m sure it’s great.

Sure have! It was pretty good, had a fairly strong pine taste to it, however. Josh and Nick said it was ‘poundable’, I did not find that to be the case IMO. I had it at the Dugarels release night in Hastings.

Anyone tried Founding Fathers? Locally brewed and 50% of all profits goes to a veterans charity! That’s pretty generous.

I like Michelob lager…regular Michelob in the brown bottle.

GRAIN Belt Premium is very good but too much and I turn into a howlitzer. flame

For the old guys…remember Lowenbrau? Pretty high brow rotflol

Anyone tried Summit’s Us & Them, from their brewer’s line? Interesting idea, two different beers created from the same ingredients.

    http://www.summitbrewing.com/brews/us-them

It is interesting. I’m more into the IPA side of it. I’m not a fan of super strong beer either. Learned that lesson. The 7% is pushing it for me.

The Session is wet and has a hint of a pineapple alkali like taste without the fruitiness.

It was worth a try just for the sake of being interesting. I don’t think I will buy another six pack though.

I think a lot of beers are made just to be different and many if not most taste like crap. I dont like strong hops so virtually every IPA is off my list.
I do like beer in the 5-6% range. My go to beer is fairly unknown and that guarantees they have some for me!

Totally agree. IPA makers are just plain trying too hard to be different and in most cases “different” = bad. For every 1 IPA that tastes good, there are now 20 overhopped, overdone, overwrought, and over-before-they-started IPAs out there that smell of foul barnyard odors and have undertones of cat urine and citrus that has sat on the counter too long.

Unfortunately, it now looks like most of the new “craft” breweries are one trick IPA ponies who are unable to think outside the IPA box except to offer a stout with the predictably overdone coffee/chocolate additives and a generic blonde beer just cause they had to.

Here’s hoping that the IPA fad blows over soon and the craft brewers discover that “different” means more than another IPA.

Anyone remember a beer called Summit EPA? It was launched in 1986. That was 30 years ago. Can anyone name a fad that has only grown in popularity over a 30 year time span? If you want a beer fad look at the various “dry” lagers that are no longer marketed.

I think you see a lot of Pale Ales because they’re popular. It would make no sense for a craft or micro brewery to try to compete in the lager market. What you have in the craft beer scene are individuals brewing beers they want to brew. Just like you see variations in the preferences in Lagers, it would make sense you’d see the same thing in pale ales. I think you see multiple versions in a brewers roster to cover people’s individual tastes.

If someone doesn’t prefer a particular style they’re in luck because there are endless possibilities out there right now.

Craft beers are the way to go. I pretty much only drink craft beer when home but if I’m out doing some long distance drinking then it’s Busch Light. Here are some of my favorites.

Toppling Goliath – Psuedo Sue and Golden Nugget but their other IPAs are great
    Surly – Furious
Lagunitas – IPA and Little Sumpin’
New Glarus – Scream IPA, Black Top and most of their other beers
    Stone – Just about everything
    Potosi – Steamboat Shandy
    Founders – Breakfast Stout
There are so many more but it would take too long to list.
