My son called me today and a couple of his friends are finding Morells, he didn’t say anything about size, just that a few guys are finding them. With the warm weather coming for the next couple weeks I look for a short fast season. Usually May 1st is prime and the lilacs are blooming here. You been hearing anything?

Dan,been hearing of a few just south of Peoria and Muscatine. I start my turkey season on Thursday. If the forecast holds it should be a great time to be in the woods!

Way to dry here again this spring. It is looking like another bust this year. Second year in a row! Enjoy what you have!

    MossyDan:

I know Muscatine’s been hot during the last 7-10 days, maybe even a bit longer… If the lilacs are blooming, you better be out there and chasing crappies as well…

Ya Robby and Mark, the last few days were perfect for growth with good sun and bluebird skies. I’ve been working on my new jon boat with wiring, lights pumps etc. so I haven’t had the time, but got a woods that will take a couple hours worth of walking to cover about a block away so that’s close enough for after work. Going to put my boat in the water tomorrow after work so maybe Wednesday and by then they will have a chance to grow more. I’m more excited about catfish Mark running dittypoles in a creek, maybe I’ll get out of the boat and hunt a hill by the creek for Mushrooms. If I get any shrooms I’ll post, it will probably be this weekend before I get serious for catfishing, their in there year after year.

Got to test run the boat this late afternoon and fished almost until dark and fished a creek I dittypole in. For the guys who are following the catfish bite locally here the bite is on. The creek we fished is plumb loaded with channels and all are hungry. We got a few with the biggest caught by my son and it went 4 lbs. This is going to be one heck of a spring because of normal water levels, for running dittypoles and will have some made this weekend. Also heard another good report on smallmouth again, with large numbers being caught in the Cedar here. Good luck!

My dad sent me the first hat-full of morels photo today. He had 49 and this is in northern Illinois.
