My sister Becky runs a farm in southern MN, Rebel Rooster Farm, and I helped her check on the bees yesterday afternoon! We brought them out some “candy” – a brownish goop they like to eat which looks like carmel – and then I held one of the frames with thousands of bees on it! It was so cool and the beekeeping suit did a fantastic job at keeping me sting-free. The bees didn’t mind that we were there for the most part. We did upset one hive and you could hear the change in their buzzing noise which meant it was time for us to leave.

Cool. So what all are you doing when tending to them?

Is honey really just bee poop?

We were inspecting the hives, looking to see that the queen was looking good, the workers are building comb, and to be sure there weren’t any intruders. I think the honey is actually their barf… rotflol
