I have a newer black Targa, which has a wide step rail from back to front that is black also. In the lightest bit of sun, it gets so hot it will burn the skin right off your arm or melt baits and plastics. Question is i want to do a light gray bed liner material to cool it down. Has anyone had good luck with any specific brands?

Have you looked at the Cabela’s roll on deck coating?

I’m floating the idea of doing this on my bass boat in the center well. The back and front deck would remain carpeted.

I had an accident with some hydraulic steering fluid when I installed it. Despite cleaning it up with Dawn dish soap and a wt vac immediately, it made a huge stain. That spill also led to the carpet glue releasing from the flooring a couple years later. Now it’s loose (and badly discolored) under the cockpit where I sit.

I’d maybe look into PlasDeck and other alternative decking products. I’ve seen this one in person and it was nice.

I’ve got a 2015 Ranger RT178 with the polymer-vinyl non-skid coating on the interior. There’s no carpet. When I was looking at boats the fall of 2015, I was not fully convinced of this material, as I had always had marine carpet on previous boats in my family. The salesman who sold me my boat convinced me otherwise. After owning this boat now for 5 years now, I can 100% positively say that I will never own a boat with carpet again. This non-skid material is so much easier to maintain and clean. There are no stains, ever. It does not get hot in the sun and its not slippery when wet. Maybe the one downside is that its harder on your knees. Forget carpet. Try thinking of it like comparing carpet to a hard surface in your house. Which one is easier to clean and maintain?

Aqua Traction is awesome like Sktrwx linked, that’d be the route I go.
