Got a new Beckman net to replace the one currently sitting in the lake. Question: what’s a good way to add some floating ability to it? Pool noodle around the base? Curious to see if you guys have modified any nets

I used a can of that spray foam to fill inside the handle, made quite the mess doing it, but it worked.

I did the exact same thing. Like Captain said, it’s a mess to do. I used to have my net tethered to my boat so if it hit the water I could just pull it up. I went with the foam once the kids started fishing with me more. They kept tripping on the line for the net.

Sorry for the tangent, but I thought Beckman quit making nets. Am I wrong, or did they start up again?

I believe they are back making nets again. I read it somewhere at least.
One thing I just remembered, Beckman had this little rubber plug you could put in the end of the handle. It served two purposes apparently, one to help when extending the handle that you wouldn’t pull it all the way through the yoke and two that it would make an air lock in the handle to make it float (sorta). I think it just delayed the sinking a bit as I never tried it.
Yes, I did lost my first Beckman to lake Alexander about 20 years ago.

Just a tip for the sprayfoam, get the Great Stuff Pond and Stone. It comes in a green can, its the exact same stuff(except maybe UV inhibitors?), but instead of the foam being a hideous yellow that fades to brown it comes in black that looks awesome. I’ve shocked a few people when using it as they’ve never seen such a thing. I buy mine at Menards but sure its found most places.

I used foam pipe insulating sleeves on my net . They slip around handle and glue back on its self .Tie wrap also helps . Added bonus it also protects the gunnel from getting marked up .
