Beautiful Day on Pool 4

Took a trip to pool 4 today. The river really lets you know how terrible you are at fishing for walleyes and saugers. I love it down there it’s a typical roller coaster ride for me.

I had been hearing the bite was excellent and I am sure it was today as well for many. Some fish were brought home but I would say a slow day for us and sounded like for many. Just curious if anyone else from the IDO family was out there today and how did you fare?

Yes, yesterday was really tough. Wednesday was a different story. The two of us caught 30 plus fish, but the size of them was not great.
still so damn good to be out. Wednesday saw around 20 boats by the dam, and Thursday there must have be 100.

Lots of shorts out there but managed to get a few for the table. Absolutely beautiful weather for the end of November.

Yes the numbers by the dam were high. I headed up there and saw the amount and did a quick u-turn

Smart choice. I’d say 99% of the fish I’ve ever caught on Pool 4 that were over 20″ were not anywhere within eyesight of the dam.

2 of us were out Thursday AM.
Boated about 2 dozen fish near the dam.
About half were keepable, largest being some 17’s.
    12- 25 fow.

Just curious was it a mixture of walleyes and saugers up there?

Won’t speak for everyone else, but I caught zero walleye and probably 2 dozen short sauger, 3 keeper saugers, a couple crappies, and a bunch of perch.

Also, there’s still tons of shad in the system. A big barge came out of the lock and there was a massacre of shad floating in its wake. giant balls of bait were often seen on the graph.

Started seeing shad floating on P2 earlier this week….with the water in the mid-30’s I would assume they will start dieing off. I didn’t see them on the graph much, either.

Check the thread right below this one. Hasn’t been much activity reports though.

I’ve had a good fall down there. Wind has been a real issue when I’ve been able to get out but fish are there. Water has really cooled so I’m pitching plastics and jigging live bait. Plastics really after dark have been the ticket. Fish are moving a lot but I think they will start to hunker down pretty soon as the shad die.

Check out the tail sticking out of this saugers mouth.

I was out there on Thursday as well, lots of boats near the dam. Caught about a dozen or so fish over a couple hours, mainly small saugers, one nice keeper walleye…gorgeous day

Hey I welcome fishblood! Straight shooter The hard truth might hurt but it makes anglers out of spectators! The river will always be humbling and I will always embrace the suck! poop I’d embrace being in his boat to gain that knowledge. The tug is my drug my live well could be river water forever! That tug will always be the drug!

Down Thursday as well. 25 or so fish. 4 decent ones. Lots of shorts. Fish seemed less aggressive than last trip. Not sure if the 5 or 6 degrees drop in water temp or just the day. Lovely weather either way.

Depends on the day, the mood of the fish, and your confidence with what you have tied on.

When I feel unsure I tie something on and run one of each and let the fish be the judge.

Thursday meat was a clear winner from the menu.

Yes. Out on pool 4 Friday 11/20 morning. Cold, windy, and not a lot caught. Beautiful today but I wasn’t out though I bet it was bumper boats! Any fish down river?

Yeah it seemed like on Thurs people were mainly jigging minnows while slow-trolling/drifting or pitching plastics into the shorelines…personally I had the most luck with a heavier (1/4-3/8 oz.) FireTiger Thumper Jig and minnow, trying to entice that “reflex” bite as lots of bait fish were still on the scanner as mentioned above.
