Got mine in! I have 5 points going in so hopefully I’ll draw.

I’m on point number 5 as well. Hopefully now with the new “use it or lose it” system in place, we can have a chance at drawing a tag every 5 years instead of the 7 or 8 years its taken in the past.

Anyone wanna take as guess as to what type of people have 15-20 preference points anyways?!

it doesn’t matter how many points a person collects. That has no bearing on the tags that are available. Preference points are simply that. A way to hol;d your place in line until the year you choose to hunt.

I know two people who have over 12 points each. One is holding his points to transfer a license to his grandson in a few years when he is old enough to hunt. The other is a single father who has financial obligations that won’t allow him to hunt right now. In a few years when circumstances allow, he’ll put in for a kill tag. Neither man is anti-hunting as your post insinuated.

I think the “preference point only” option is a great option for those who want to bear hunt but can’t go right now. JMHO

Exactly the point I was trying to make. I apologize if my post came off a little distorted.

In the past, if a tag was drawn but not used, one would not lose their preference point and another that tag would not be redistributed in its place. Special interest groups found this loophole and took advantage of it. Fortunately now, there are better measures in place to fix the tag system.

I will also point this part out… If you are taking advantage of the ability to hunt the southern C zone, you should be able to pull a tag this or next year…

If you are hunting the norhtern zones, more typically you are still going to wait 7-9 years in zones A and D and perhaps a year or two longer in B. At least those generalities seemed likely in years past. With the additional tags supposedly available with the increased count, there have been a lot more numbers applying, so the length of the wait really hasn’t changed much to this date…

    I applied for Zone C

    My 1st year so I don’t expect a tag
