It may just be the radio. Not all radios are created equal. Some radios just have poor reception but it`s not as noticable on the FM bands.

I researched this a little a while back because most of the football games are broadcast on AM. One big problem in a boat is that AM reception is more directional dependant and if the boat is moving around reception will go in and out on you. The AM antenae is not much on most radios either. I decided to go to a Sirius hookup which works good for me. Good luck.

So this info might be a little dated…

Back when I was installing AM/FM radios…FM was just becoming popular.

Inside the 8 track opening, towards the back, there was a little screw adjustment for the AM antenna. Adjusting the screw until the AM station came in the best.

I’ve been out of touch with AM radios for a very long time…I would guess there would be some info in the owners manual IF technology hasn’t replaced that adjustment screw. Worth checking into.
