Congrats to long time IDO member Justin B from Illinois.

Last night, he piled a gorgeous 345# boar around 8:30 local time. This is Justin’s first bear and my personal hat is tipped to this guy. He held out for 4 nights, passing on several other bears before pulling the trigger on this one. In fact, Justin was going to shoot another bear before it was pushed off the bait by this monster. Good things come to those who wait! Way to go Justin! Enjoy the memories of your hunt, you deserve it sir!

What a great experience!! This being my 1st bear hunt I didn’t know what to expect. I arrived at Pasha on Saturday to 60 degree temps..a nice break from 80’s in Illinois. Chad gave me the 411 on what’s been happening including multiple game trail pics. I knew there were some big bears in the area!! Went into the woods that afternoon full of excitement. No bears the 1st day.

Walleye fishing the next morning on an isolated lake, which I had all to myself..not uncommon at Pasha. That afternoon I saw my 1st bear..guys from Illinois just don’t see many bears..it was surreal. This bear was a shooter, but it was only my 2nd day…I passed. Pike fishing the next morning followed by another afternoon hunt. Was dropped off by 4wheeler down a 2mi long trail. After a long 6hr sit in the stand a huge boar came in, snapped the chain holding the 55g drum and tossed it into the woods. Not enough light for a bow shot. Light faded and quickly turned pitch black and the bear re-emerges. At this point I can only hear him breathing and panting. I was in the fetal position praying for the 4 wheeler to arrive and get me out of there!! After that experience I decided to leave the ‘ol hickory stick in the cabin and hunt the remainder of the trip with a 12ga slug gun.

2 bears came into the bait on the 4th night(one bear was licking my tree stand)…passed. The 5th night was an absolute miserable hunt. 5 hours on the stand through near constant rain, 30 mph wind, and 50 degree temps. I was swaying in my aspen tree, teeth chattering, and watching my watch anticipating nightfall so I could go back to camp and dry off. At 8:30 a nice bear came to the bait and I instantly warmed up. The bear left just as fast as he came in..I was devastated..5 hours in horrible weather for that. 5 minutes later an even bigger bear came in and parked his fat behind right in front of the bait..this was going to be my bear. The boar stood up and quarterd away…I let the slug fly and the boar folded up 10 yards from the bait. Next came my 1st death moan experience…wow.

Chad and his crew at Pasha did a fantastic job of helping a bear hunting rookie not only have a great time, but also take home a great bear!! Snag a few fish in the morning, hunting in the afternoon…can it get any better. Now the question is…shoulder mount or rug?…the bear has a nice V-shaped white patch on his chest……Justin
