Well to start, I have to apologize for not getting any more pics up, just been too busy with work, another job, another job, taking Dad into the woods, back out, sometimes back to my bro’s place if he hasn’t had a ride… I haven’t seen the inside of my boat since the third week of Aug and that rarely happens!!! Well last night I had to take him back out to the bro’s and on the way he saw his first live bear of the fall!!! Unfortunately it was on the ride home, but the barely 100#’er tried to get under my truck and then turned and beelined to the safe side of the road!!! On the way I got a call from my friend who shot the dressed 340 (just got the call) (gut, sorry I hijacked your post last year) last season that his ma had just fired and he might need help to get a 150#’er out…

So off I went, we got into the woods about 8:30 found the blood, but it was not the best and we lost it for about 30 minutes or so. All the trails just looked like we should be going right. After a bit we started combing to the left and my buddy got a little ahead of me and yelled “I got blood”!!! I snuck to his position and we called his Mom and Dad over… One the way while we looking and talking Al shined the light in front of us and went “there’s the bear”, so bear found at 10 p.m.

Well our 150 went to 250 and 350 in a hurry!!! We started called friends to get more manpower and while we were waiting I used my elbow to tip of the finger measurement and put the first unofficial length at 63″. Then using my 6″ legal trout measurement went at it again, this time coming up with a whopping 13 hands!!! Unofficially 78″!!! Big head, paws, beauty white chevron on his chest, just a gorgeous bear!!!

Hoping to get length and weight here before the end of the day and will post along with a picture(s) when I get some.

For the rest, our report is that with our cooler weather, bear activity has been somewhat diminished. Baits are not getting hit as hard is the word from around the area. Some hunters are seeing bear, but some have not seen a bear all season. Don’t give up if you are having a hard time, just keep putting your time in, they’ll be back before it ends on Oct. 5!!!

Sounds great Mark, I like the team effort on this. Makes it more fun and you get to share the hunt with others that way too.

    Looking forward to pics!
