Rob – Yup, I’m headed to Newfoundland – trip is coming up shortly!!! Never been to Newfoundland, so this will be quite the experience. Hopefully we will get some great pictures – lots of moose, caribou, etc. from what I understand.

I’m really looking forward to the trip, especially after shooting a WI boar last fall. We are all taking bows, and it should be an awesome combo black bear / brookie trip.

Lots of packing and organizing to do, but yes, I am getting pretty pumped!!!!

Just got back from Manitoba. 3 of us on the trip. 1 kill, 1 hit and lost, and I didn’t see a shooter bear. Seen 3 little ones and 1 crawled up in the tree with me on the last sit. Had a great time as always up at http://www.eastmanoutfitting.ca
Chris still has some spring bear opening if you want to put a last minute hunt together. He’s about 7.5 hours from the Twin Cities.
Pictures of the 1 a friend got are on the home page.

One of my customers just got back from Kodiak Island. Shot a 10′ coastal brown. Just shy or just over 1000 lbs (can’t remember) Cool looking bear, something like 23 years old. All I have is a Kodak photo, I’ll see if I can get it scanned in.

Might as well post a few pics of last fall’s WI bear, more or less to for my benefit (keep me fired up!)

Things are going fine so far. Running out of prep time, but I think I have things in “loose” order as of right now.

Clothes aren’t packed yet, but all my camo gear, scent lock stuff, etc is washed in hunter’s detergent and stored in a scent-proof bag. Bug netting, gloves, etc are also in there. Waders (for brook trout fishing) are set, just need to clean up the wading boots and hunting boots and get them in/near my “to be taken with” pile of clothes.

Bow has been shooting very well, and all shots should be 20 yards or less. I was hitting out to 40 the other day, and 20 has been pretty solid. Practice blade Rage 2-blades are shooting very similar to the field tips. I tried shooting my Muzzy practice heads, and they flew all over the place. I don’t think they like my blazer vanes (feathers used to shoot the Muzzy’s just fine, though). So, Rage it is. Some of the guys I am going with are shooting Grim Reaper expandables, so hopefully we will get a chance to compare terminal preformance. Other than that, most of my gear is in a nice little pile, ready for final inspection/packing.

Trying to think of all the little extras that I might need… Things like extra bowstring, extra sight, broadheads, practice tips, extra release, knife, not to mention fishing gear, tackle, camera(s)/accessories, etc…

This has the makings of a three trips in one, basically – trout fishing in (potentially) world class streams/rivers, bow hunting for bear, as well as photography/video. I’d like to take my digital SLR and video camera, but I’m not sure how much room I’ll have when all of the “essentials” are packed. I usually take tons of photos, but I might have to rely on my new (waterproof ) digital point and shoot to handle both video (720p) and still pics. I’m hoping it does a good job!
