I know they fish at Osceola in the back waters. I have fished there a couple of times with limited success. Have also heard of fishing at Rock Island just north of Franconia. I dont have any ideas on what ice conditions would be up that way.

I have been up that way and I didn’t see anyone fishing around rock island. I see some people fishing just below the bridge about 100 or so yards.

I am gonna give it a whirl again maybe this week or weekend. I just have to see what shakes down.

    Thanks mike

My Brother in law is from St. Croix Falls, WI and he says it’s not a very popular area, and I rarely see people up there when visiting. There are lots of very good lakes to the east of that area however, where there is known “safe” ice. I’d say the combo of shaky ice and known fishing lakes within 20 miles of “above the dam”, would explain the lack of activity.

I’ve seen two dead big black fury things the last two weekends heading north on 35E just South of Pine City. Two weeks ago it was about a 150 lber right by a turn around. This Sunday morning one was right on the shoulder and it looked like a 75 lber. Anybody else see these? Just caught a glimpse of them on the way up and on the way home they were gone both times.

    Ferny.
