After applying for 9 years I finally drew a WI resident tag. Which is Bull**** anyway wed started off great seen one small bear and buddy sat other stand seen 4 one monster sat that bait thurs and seen one who wouldn’t commit to the bait for some reason. Friday morning no bears friday nite went to the same stand had a nice bear stand looking at the bait area then spooked and ran, wind in my face looked at my camera guy and couldn’t figure it out. Then all of a sudden moma and 3 little one’s come out makes sense now that was cool watching them but moma didn’t like the tractors running across the valley and passed my stand 6yrds and off they went. Sat morning sat the same stand for 7hrs and nothing left at 1:00 and a bear was in at 2:30 that’s what was going on at the two baits all week chess match. Went back to stand 1 for the evening hunt got in at 3:30 bear was there at 2:50 and sat all night till last light and here he comes. We were all set for two camera video and wouldn’t you know it low light unable to record but I’m not a pro so I took the shot, and he went roughly 200yrds my 1st bear after 9 years. I feel rather lucky because I was seeing bear and the baits were still being hit. Talking with other people in the area the bears quit hitting the bait and were hitting the acorns hard. The stomach of mine was packed full all acorns Aproximate live weight was around 300lbs just got done skinning him alot of fat on his butt wow hoping to get walking 3/4 mount of him.

Congrats abster71 on a great looking bear! I guess the wait was worth it!

Do you already have a taxidermist? If not, I would recommend Kirk Peterson from Peterson’s Taxidermy in Arkansaw WI. He does a fantastic job on bear mounts.
